Hello,
I am using Wine 0.9.58 (max Wine version here shows 0.9.57). I've tried to play the racing game Flatout. Everything looks perfect - except for shadows. Shadow of my own car is drawn properly, but other car's shadows are nothing but a black square on the ground.
The game is set to use Triple Buffering - I've chosen this on the first screen.
However, I don't know how to choose it without triple buffering - this screen is not coming up again. The settings are not stored in the game's directory, because on Cedega this screen showed up.
On cedega, game runs flawlessly, except the load time is much longer.
I will have to give the game back to my friend soon, if I'll figure out how to disable triple buffering (because I think this may be causing the trouble), I'll post it here.
Removing .wine directory didn't help at all. The game still runs PERFECTLY, but with the shadow issue. And, Flatout 2 demo works perfect. They should compile these games with winelib.
PS. The output is quite long (92KB).
My system:
Fedora 8 1GB RAM Celeron 3GHZ and GeForce 8600GT Wine 0.9.58 GNOME
Cheers!

--- Comment #1 from Lei Zhang thestig@google.com 2008-03-22 09:25:43 --- Is there a downloadable demo for Flatout 1? You said the Flatout 2 demo does not have this problem.
What version of the nvidia driver are you using?

--- Comment #2 from Tomasz Sałaciński tsalacinski@gmail.com 2008-03-22 10:35:19 --- There is a downloadable version of Flatout demo, on Fileshack:
http://fileshack.com/file.x/5769/FlatOut+Demo+1.1
(unfortunately, you will have to wait ~2 minutes, but it will give you nice speed - mine was 900kb/s, so the download will be quick).
I think I know what is the issue.
If I will set the resolution to 1680x1050x32 FlatOut shows these artifacts, but when I will switch to for example 1024x768x32, it works ok.
I've noticed it depends on the resolution. The higher resolution, the bigger the artifacts are. For example 1680x1050x32 is unplayable, but 1024x768 shows no errors. I can play in high resolution on Cedega.
Also, I've tried to play with Anisotropy setting and triple buffering - can play with or without them. Only the screen resolution affects it.
Also, changing from 32 to 16 BPP is not fixing the problem.
If you want to remove old settings, remove the Savegame/device.cfg file, and FlatOut will show you the welcome screen again (so you will be able to change resolution).
And also, my driver: 169.12.
I think this can be related to video memory, WINE always shows 128MB, isn't that right? Bigger resolution eats more memory. And, if I will set textures and world detail to low, the game looks slightly better.
I think I've described the problem properly;) Cheers!

--- Comment #4 from Tomasz Sałaciński tsalacinski@gmail.com 2008-10-17 16:14:42 --- Austin - good question. Just checked with wine-1.1.6-204-ge994515. The problem is fixed, Flatout works like a charm. I had to give the game back, but I've tested with the demo (it behaved the same as full version, eg had black shadows). I think the bug can be closed.
