Summary: RealOne Player crashes after Gecko installs. Product: Wine Version: 0.9.57. Platform: PC URL: http://download.oldapps.com/Real_Player/RealOnePlayerV2G OLD.exe OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: rockinup1231@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=11247) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=11247) The lines that go down the log at first for a while are those of the program loading the GUI, but then it changes when it reaches the mention of the browser.
RealOne Player has streaming capabilities, and built in browser capabilities. WINE will prompt to install Gecko. After the installation, the program crashes completely, and will not start again until Gecko is removed.

--- Comment #1 from scguy318 nodisgod@yahoo.com 2008-03-09 22:36:41 --- Hmm, I can't reproduce the specific crash you have on 0.9.57, post-install I incur a page fault with backtrace in user32, but launching realplay.exe directly seems to be fine. Looking at your backtrace, your issue in question could be related to your graphical drivers, but I am not definitive.

--- Comment #2 from Justin rockinup1231@gmail.com 2008-03-10 07:21:01 --- Well they might be. I use the non-free nvidia drivers (my video card is ancient...a GeForce2/400MX is how it reads on Linux, but reads as a GeForce3/400MX on Windows...the labels on the card are too heat-worn so I really don't know.) and other than making use of graphics accelleration I'm not sure what other effects they'd have.
I'll attach another log later today when I get the chance. There were two ways I tried running the program: installing it with ies4linux, then running it with such (I put down what I did in RealOne's HOWTO), which crashed it, and then tried again by installing it and running it normally, which crashed it too once Gecko was installed. I forget how I ran the program when I produced the attached log, so I'll try both ways and put up the different log in the attachment.

Sorry for throwing this on here late. The last log I'm pretty sure I tried to install it/run it with ies4linux, which didn't work, and the program crashed when Gecko installed. This time I made sure it was a normal install. This log I'm posting yielded the same crash results.
I notice the display driver relations, but I really don't see why they would be a factor. Everything else works just fine and doesn't bug about them. Hmm...

--- Comment #5 from Lei Zhang thestig@google.com 2008-03-11 16:26:25 --- I started with a clean ~/.wine directory. Then I installed gecko and real player. Real Player's installer started up the app and and crashed. However, when I started the app a second time. It works just fine:
mv ~/.wine ~/.wine_old wineprefixcreate -w wine iexplore wine RealOnePlayerV2GOLD.exe
... crashes
cd "~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Real/RealOne Player" wine realplay.exe
It's not running perfectly, but it doesn't crash either.

--- Comment #7 from Justin rockinup1231@gmail.com 2008-03-11 17:57:11 --- Okay, well I'll abandon ies4linux since I have no use for it now.
I did exactly what you did a few moments ago, and when I got to the iexplore step, iexplore loaded up, asked for Gecko (I installed it), then crashed shortly thereafter. It produced similar backtrace results as I had gotten before. I really don't understand where the problem lies (I've got alot to learn, *sigh*) but if I were to take a guess I would assume it to be related to KDE. On my last setup (Ubuntu 7.04 with wine 0.9.46, before my current fresh installation of Kubuntu 7.10 with the current version of wine) on this machine Gecko worked without crashing issues. Notice the backtrace I attached from the crash from iexplore.

--- Comment #9 from Lei Zhang thestig@google.com 2008-03-11 18:08:45 --- So if you run just: wine iexplore, it crashes?
I don't think it's related to KDE, I don't think it's an issue here. However, I am curious how you installed Wine. Did you use a deb package or compile it yourself?

--- Comment #10 from Justin rockinup1231@gmail.com 2008-03-11 18:49:18 --- It's the official release. I used Adept to get it (Basically Synaptic on normal Ubuntu) and install it. So yes, I installed it from a .deb package.
Yeah, that's what happens.

According to http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/wine, Ubuntu 7.10 comes with Wine 0.9.46, but you filled in Wine 0.9.57 on the bug report. Can you verify which version you're using?

By that, I mean to say that 0.9.57 is what I had/have installed right now.

Does that mean you're running Hardy now? Ubuntu's wine 0.9.57 package won't install on Gutsy. I tried out the latest wine package from http://wine.budgetdedicated.com, and that worked just fine on Gutsy.

--- Comment #15 from Justin Soulia rockinup1231@gmail.com 2008-03-11 20:29:22 --- Umm...actually...I didn't realize that. I have version 0.9.57 on Gutsy (I followed the instructions here for updating repositories and getting updated versions of wine off this site), and it installed just fine. I have a screenshot that proves that bit.

--- Comment #18 from Justin Soulia rockinup1231@gmail.com 2008-06-01 18:57:11 --- I tried installing Gecko again (a while ago) after this problem, and it didn't produce any problems. It seems that it was only a problem with my WINE installation (possibly corrupted when it was downloaded or something of that nature).
Thread Closed.
