Bug ID: 40271 Summary: Can't start UPlay: "Connection Lost" error Product: Wine Version: 1.9.4 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: fry.kun@gmail.com Distribution: Fedora
Created attachment 53907 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=53907 WINEDEBUG=+winsock,+secur32
Fedora package: wine-1.9.4-1.fc23.x86_64 wine --version: wine-1.9.4 (Staging)
When starting UPlay in online mode (have to log in), it fails with a message "Connection lost" Several weeks ago it was working just fine
Let me know if you need me to try bisecting wine versions to narrow it down or the attached log is enough..

I just recently saw this same error myself.

--- Comment #3 from TestSubject sirbubbles01@gmail.com --- same issue with a 64 bit wine prefix under 1.9.8. If done under a plain 32 bit prefix, it doesn't seem to work at all, crashing with an unrecoverable error. Tried with fresh prefixes, different wine versions, etc. Same problem. Hope someone's working on something.

I just tested wine-staging 1.9.8 and this is still a problem. Maybe even raise the priority of this bug. This blocks all uplay games from working.

--- Comment #5 from Berillions berillions@gmail.com --- I'm unhappy to see that Wine's developer don't care about us ...
I don't say that this issue is easy to fix but it's easy to reproduce. And there isn't developer who is interested to help us.
You will not be surprised to know that Linux gamers like me will delete Wine and not use it in the future...

So any chance to find where come from the problem ?
I've been thinking that it was the same issue that the bug #35828 but it's not the case.

Not really, I don't understand this SSL area. All I can say is from the point of view of sockets.
When you open the application it connects to the server to look for patches, it does 2 connections and both work. Then when you try to login it will again connect to the server using the very same parameters but the server will refuse to handshake stating a fatal error (0x02) error related to protocol version (0x46) occurred.

--- Comment #10 from super_man@post.com --- I had to do winetricks -q corefonts I had almost invisble uplay menu without. I don't see the issue anymore with the patch, but I get a uplay crash while logging. It's actually the game that is crashing the crash location is at ac3sp (assassin creed 3 single player ?).
Sounds fixed to me.

--- Comment #12 from Nobun sky436-unqou@yahoo.it --- I Tested the patch provided here on the staged patchset, and it seems working. I tested with a clean install of uplay and tried to connect to my uplay account, and it connected successfully. I still not tried an actual game, however.
Build information: compiled the last git snapshot (marked as 1.9.9) with the patch provided here. Compiled on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS virtual machine (32bit) and tested on my actual HOST system (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64 bit). This way I could compile/test the 32bit version wich is still the most suggested one.
Additional notes: the bug happened with ALL wine versions after the recent updates on uplay. However I tested the fix suggested here only with the wine's lastest git snapshot.

--- Comment #13 from super_man@post.com --- It's possible that the patch fixes also bug 34733 . At least it seem to work now too and the component is the same: secur32.

--- Comment #17 from Adam Bolte abolte@systemsaviour.com --- Confirming this is still a problem in 1.9.16 without the linked secur32-Zero_Buffer_Length patch from wine-staging.
The staging patch was confirmed working about three months ago. Any word on when it will be good to merge or what the concerns with it are? I imagine Uplay being broken for so long is quite a significant issue.

--- Comment #18 from Nobun sky436-unqou@yahoo.it --- Uplay was again updated, and it seems that now the fix doesn't work anymore. I did some tests with wine 1.9.17 with this patch and in those last days I was never being able to connect (while it downloads updates for uplay)

The issue is currently blocked by bug 41652, which already contains a hack.

Unfortunately Uplay doesn't display any text or images in the application itself, which is a different story than this bug here.

Yes, that is most likely the same as bug 43319. Until recently it worked, it broke with one of the UPlay updates.
