i'm having exactly this issue.

$ wine --version
Wine 0.9.21
$ uname -a
Linux damasco 2.6.17-10-generic #2 SMP Tue Sep 26 15:43:28 UTC 2006 x86_64 GNU/Linux

i installed wine following this guide
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WineForAMD64 that uses the official deb.
the game runs perfectly but uses 100% of the CPU
