Summary: Pathologic hangs on starting up Product: Wine Version: 1.1.37 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: gyebro69@gmail.com
The game Pathologic (from Buka) hangs on starting up. Tried with the digital distribution version of the game from Gamersgate which contains no copy-protection.
A demo version can be downloaded here: http://www.gamershell.com/download_13148.shtml
Symptom: the game changing the gamma of the screen when starting, then hangs (no error messages). I have to kill the process and restore the gamma through Nvidia control panel. I've tried both fullscreen and virtual desktop mode, the same hanging occurs.
Wine-1.1.37 compiled from source, clean wine install without any winetricks Fedora 12 x86 AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+ 3 GB Ram Nvidia Geforce 7600 GT with driver 190.53

--- Comment #4 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2010-07-18 10:34:18 --- Created an attachment (id=29688) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=29688) new backtrace (now with debugging symbols)
Nothing has changed in Wine-1.2. On startup the game changes the gamma of the screen to a very bright level, then crashes.
The backtrace lines from my log are somewhat similar to the one reported in bug #23240: Backtrace: =>0 0x0011008b (0x00329b18) 1 0x68de6d60 IDirect3DDevice9Impl_GetDirect3D+0x6f(iface=0x139c18, ppD3D9=0x329cd4) [dlls/d3d9/device.c:340] in d3d9 (0x00329b68) 2 0x68de6d60 IDirect3DDevice9Impl_GetDirect3D+0x6f(iface=0x143f20, ppD3D9=0x329cd4) [dlls/d3d9/device.c:340] in d3d9 (0x00329cd8) 3 0x01db6eb6 in d3d (+0xb6eb5) (0x00329e40)
In this case d3d is the game's own d3d.dll renderer library.

--- Comment #5 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2010-07-18 10:42:06 --- After 'winetricks d3dx9 quartz' plus placing native devenum.dll and amstream.dll into /system32, the relevant lines are changed into:
=>0 0x6c254cfa IDirect3DVertexShader9Impl_GetFunction+0x7a(iface=0x130df8, pData=0x0(nil), pSizeOfData=0x1) [/dlls/d3d9/vertexshader.c:103] in d3d9 (0x00329cd8)
indicating a shader issue, and I don't know how to proceed any further...

--- Comment #10 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2011-06-07 10:10:50 CDT --- The patches have been committed: http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/commit/94785ab4d57ccc7cce08f77a2db7576... http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/commit/174b03cad867aa92210ff411d3e95bd...
The game starts correctly in wine-1.3.21-209-g441f735.
Windows Media Player, native quartz.dll and devenum.dll are needed else the game crashes in a similar way on startup. That's probably a different problem.
Thank you for fixing this long-standing issue thus making Pathologic playable under Wine. Now the game deserves a much better rating on Appdb.
