Steps to reproduce: Install the application, allow it to install visual studio runtime, cancel directx installation. Launch the application, select file->new.

You're right, something was messed in my build after I tried only rebuilding the dll. I rebuilt and reinstalled wine and the program indeed started well with your patch. Sorry for the noise.
