Does native IE help? e.g. 'winetricks ie7'
thank you for the suggestion, but it doesnt.
i downloaded the latest version of winetricks and installed ie7. when i ran pegasus mail, it crashed w/ page fault - see attachment. needless to say, this bug leaves me w/o email. is there any way this bug (or workaround) could get higher priority? i can help as much as required

Is this a duplicate of bug 30221?
no, that bug (30221) was fixed in 1.5.x; even though the "OleCommandTarget_Exec Unsupported cmdID = 63" continues to persist, that was not the problem.
the problem in 30221 was the (0x80040100) (0x80040100) @01AD84F5 exception and it is now fixed in 1.5.8; which was the main, or one of the main, reasons why I upgraded. I should mention that the upgrade itself was very difficult since it required all the sources, associated development libs, compiling, etc, etc. since ubuntu does not support the 1.5.x release - all together about 2.6 GiB of additional space on my hdd. anyway, it turns out that i am now dealing with larger problems, no email, than just dealing with the previous, repetitive, safecall and exception msgs. that i just had click through.
is there any chance this bug could be looked at on higher priority than just "normal" since it appears that wine itself is taken down by this bug if ie7 is installed???
i should also point out that wine/pegasus gets stuck in an infinite loop after this:
err:ole:apartment_getclassobject DllGetClassObject returned error 0x80040111 err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {50d5107a-d278-4871-8989-f4ceaaf59cfc} could be created for context 0x401
when the thread is terminated, wine crashes with it

on the other hand, after closer examination, you might be quite correct in that these two bugs are related.
in bug 30221, the exception (0x80040100) @01AD84F5 generated dialog msgs that needed to be unclicked, but the program did not crash. this time, i did not encounter any error msgs i had to unclick. however, the returned error 0x80040111 is pretty close to what was happening in bug 30221:
err:ole:apartment_getclassobject DllGetClassObject returned error 0x80040111

--- Comment #12 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net 2012-07-08 06:32:43 CDT --- You should have marked the other bug as fixed. I've done that for you.
IE7 was suggested as a possible workaround. From what you say it just made things worse, but problems caused by using native dlls are not Wine bugs.
The priority of "normal" is correct for this bug. http://bugs.winehq.org/page.cgi?id=fields.html#importance
The AppDB has reports indicating that the IERenderer crashes Pegasus Mail, though no one seems to have filed a bug for that. They also state that the alternative BearHTML renderer works; try that in a clean wineprefix.

the IERenderer is integrated w/ Pegasus. it is not possible to uninstall it and it is not possible to install pegasus without it. 'wine uninstaller' attempts to uninstall the ierenderer but fails with a msg that an instance of pegasus is already running and must be closed. i confirm that pegasus was not loaded or running.
I had contacted the developer of ierenderer as soon as it was introduced and asked him how i can get rid of it since that is when i started having serious problems and reported them here in bugzilla. he said it was not possible to remove ierenderer, only to disable it. mine ierenderer has been disabled since day one and i dont use it as wine cannot deal w/ it properly.
i have followed your suggestion and installed wine into a clean wineprefix with only one application installed: PegasusMail - were back to stack overflow. i created another debug report for review and is attached.
would you know if this bug will be looked at soon as i am ultimately w/o email

the workaround, not a fix, a workaround is to manually edit file called IERenderer.fff in the pegasus directory and comment everything out. once that is done, pegasus functions again but w/o html capability.
however, it is still a bug since new users who install pegasus are left with a crashing application and will not know what the problem is. existing users who upgrade to 1.5.x are in the same boat. to get pegasus going, it requires users manually edit appl files, bastardize the app's functionality and cripple html rendering. i'm including another debug report for developers to see what it looks like after ierenderer is taken out manually.

debug output after ierenderer is manually taken out by editing file called ierenderer.fff; thus, eliminating html functionality in the pegasus mail software.

--- Comment #17 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net 2012-07-08 17:29:55 CDT --- I downloaded the app, and can confirm the stack overflow on start. My console output is pretty much the same as in attachment 40931.
However, all that is needed to get it to work is to delete or rename the file IERenderer.dll, or set it to disabled in winecfg. Pegasus will throw up an error message about not being able to find it when starting, but you can just click through it and the program will work, including html rendering. If the file is renamed or deleted, you can then symlink IERenderer.dll to bearhtml.dll (which is also installed by the app) to get rid of the startup error message about the missing dll.
Confirming and setting severity to minor, since there's an easy workaround.
