Summary: Civilization V crashes after clicking play game and prior to the game starting Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: sirjava@gmail.com
After steam loads i can right click on the sys tray icon and launch Civ V. The game launches and I am able to click on play game but the game never initalizes. Maybe it's hardware specific since I've seen several reports of it working ... i have fought with this for countless hours and can't find anyone else having this exact same issue I am having.

The log shows that the crash is in your video driver. Try updating to a newer release of fglrx if possible.

--- Comment #4 from sirjava@gmail.com 2011-03-30 15:19:41 CDT --- It seems to have been somehow related to the graphics card/driver although wow will play just fine on that "problem" card/driver ... I removed this new card (ATI 9x series, forget which model, am at work will try & look it up when i get home) and replaced it with the old card, an nvidia 8400 i believe, and the game boots and loads fine.

--- Comment #5 from sirjava@gmail.com 2011-03-30 15:26:48 CDT --- This issue existed as of 2 days ago and i was running wine 1.3.16

--- Comment #6 from sirjava@gmail.com 2011-03-30 15:35:11 CDT --- correction, the problem card (and i say problem although it's only this app it seemed to have issue with, running the game 5 times seemed to give 5 different errors, the one posted happened to finger the fglrx driver) seemed to be a ati radeon 5600 series, will confirm when i get home.

--- Comment #7 from sirjava@gmail.com 2011-03-31 11:00:24 CDT --- last update. it was an ati radeon 5770, and as far as i know i was using the latest and greatest drivers from ati.

--- Comment #8 from Erik Quaeghebeur winebugs@equaeghe.nospammail.net 2011-06-04 07:15:27 CDT --- I encounter this bug as well, wine 1.3.21 (on gentoo), but with the demo. I use fglrx 11.3; I'll test newer drivers to see if this improves matters.
N.B.: bug 26594 looks very much like a dupe of this one.
P.S.: I'll attach the console debug log

11.5 does not change the situation, sadly enough... so I guess we need to hope this gets fixed in a future driver update.
(BTW ATI5570 card here)

With fglrx 11.6, I now get past the game start screen. (Please confirm this improvement.)
Very soon after starting to play however, the game crashes. I tried this twice; I did not notice a specific trigger.
I attach the new debug log.

Now, with wine 1.3.24, the demo works; I think this bug may be closed now (after confirmation perhaps).
