Summary: Call of duty 4 demo crashes on start Product: Wine Version: 1.0-rc4 Platform: PC-x86-64 URL: http://charlieoscardelta.com/ OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: tlarhices@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=13765) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=13765) Call of duty 4 with 3D Mark patch only (+d3d trace)
After applying the 3D Mark patch (see bug 9210) the game will start to load and crash before entering the menu.
In 1.0 rc3 I was possible to ear sound while having a black screen or a message box displaying : DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error. Check the readme for possible solutions.
With 1.0 rc4 the game just segfault right after the splash screen.
I have an nvidia geforce 9600gt with the driver 173.14.05 and is performing well with other 3D games in wine.
I made some test, changing the offscreen rendering method and the video memory size without any change in the result.
I'm attaching a trace with +d3d with the 3D Mark patch only and another one with applying also the NVidia patch.
Patches are linked on the appdb page : http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=10429
This problem has been discussed on the forum here : http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t=1165

trace:d3d:IWineD3DDeviceImpl_GetAvailableTextureMem (0x1a50e0) : simulating 64MB, returning 0MB left
Your card should have more than 64MB! Could you try to set your video memory in regedit to a higher value (VideoMemorySize = 512 (the value which your card has))? (See http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys )

--- Comment #3 from Clerc Mathias tlarhices@gmail.com 2008-06-07 05:35:53 --- Thanks, it works now. I also found it strange that it was thinking I had only 64Mb. Shouldn't wine detect this by itself ?
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13736
--- Comment #4 from Rico kgbricola@web.de 2008-06-07 08:45:23 --- Yes, wine should detect it, but the 9600 hasn't got a setting for video memory size and so the default value (64MB) is used. Could you rename the Summery to something like "Detection of nvidia geforce 9x00 isn't implemented" or so?

--- Comment #6 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2008-06-07 10:20:55 --- Indeed Wine does not check yet for any 9x00 series cards.

--- Comment #7 from Rico kgbricola@web.de 2008-06-09 12:35:19 --- Could you retry with current git? There was a patch which should solve the problem ( http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/?a=commit;h=38a98f67892fd29b946d5ff52f... ). Please delete the registry key before you try it or take a new wineprefix.

--- Comment #8 from Clerc Mathias tlarhices@gmail.com 2008-06-10 04:27:20 --- I just tried it and I still need to put the registry key. Is there a way to know how much memory was detected by wine ? Maybe it's just because the patch gives only 384Mo to the 9600GT. Even if this is the case the call of duty's log still say that there is only 64Mo...

--- Comment #9 from Rico kgbricola@web.de 2008-11-11 14:50:41 --- Could you retry with wine 1.1.8?
