Summary: Street Fighter 4 Benchmark: Poor framerate Product: Wine Version: 1.1.24 Platform: PC URL: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=versi on&iId=17048 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3d AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: saziel@gmail.com
The SF4 Benchmark (and thus, the game itself probably) suffers from a poor framerate when run under wine. Under windows I can get up to 90fps, while I'm stuck at 30fps running under wine. As the game logic is based on frames, not time, anything below 60fps is unusable.
In addition, it does not seem to recognize the video card properly- where the video card string should be displayed, it says "X11 Windowing System" instead.
Fiddling around with the options can slightly boost framerate. For instance, with backgrounds disabled the framerate can jump much higher, however most other options have little effect.
Not much interesting console output, except this which gets spammed: err:d3d:state_colorwrite (WINED3DRS_COLORWRITEENABLE1/2/3,7,15,15) not yet implemented. Missing of cap D3DPMISCCAPS_INDEPENDENTWRITEMASKS wasn't honored?

--- Comment #1 from Jeff Zaroyko jeffz@jeffz.name 2009-07-03 04:08:30 --- which video card and drivers are you using?

--- Comment #2 from amro saziel@gmail.com 2009-07-03 06:39:06 --- Using nvidia's 185.18.14_x86. With games such as EFBB, FEAR, TF2 and WoW I get excellent performance on par with XP.
After letting the benchmark run to the end (took a while with low fps) it also showed vram as 0. Could it be relevant? Maybe it's not using VBOs as a result?

WINEDEBUG=-all wine xxx.exe
is better?

--- Comment #4 from amro saziel@gmail.com 2009-07-03 08:22:34 --- I had already tried it, WINEDEBUG=-all has no noticeable effect on FPS, though loading times seemed to improve a bit.

--- Comment #7 from Lubosz Sarnecki lubosz@gmail.com 2010-02-19 06:04:25 --- I get the same problem in StarCraft 2. The game initializes very long. Ingame i get the following warning:
"Your computer has run out of paged pool memory. Visual quality may degrade. Your graphics settings have been lowered to help, but performance may still be poor."
This output is spammed continuously, so i suppose it's in the render loop:

--- Comment #8 from Lubosz Sarnecki lubosz@gmail.com 2010-02-19 06:06:59 --- The interesting thing is that this does not occur during the login screen in StarCraft 2, where graphics are rendered with game engine settings. I can even set the options to Ultra and the framerate does not drop.

Probably worth filing a separate bug for because SC2 is a different application. This one is about SF4.

--- Comment #10 from Lubosz Sarnecki lubosz@gmail.com 2010-02-19 06:49:49 --- I thought that the hierarchy of bugs is that one bug can have more applications affected. So i looked for similar bugs. But of course, the SC2 problem could have different reasons. But i guess both have the direct3d error "err:d3d:state_colorwrite" in common.
I will open a new bug for StarCraft 2.

--- Comment #11 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2010-11-14 12:04:02 CST --- I see this, too. On my e8400 / gt220 system: Vista: solid 60 FPS, CPU usage 20% Wine-1.3.6: variable 40 FPS, CPU usage 110%
I had to turn off the rendering thread (see bug 23647) or the screen was usually black on wine. No effect on Windows. (And framerate didn't seem to improve on wine with readerthread on.)

--- Comment #12 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2010-11-14 12:11:45 CST --- On some runs, I see framerate of 55 on same hardware (probably the slow run was fullscreen on higher resolution rather than default windowed mode?)

--- Comment #13 from butraxz@gmail.com 2013-06-27 12:26:32 CDT --- This ticket has not been updated for over 900 days.
Is this still an issue in wine version 1.6-rc3 or higher or is this to be closed as abandoned ?

--- Comment #14 from Jarkko K jarkko_korpi@hotmail.com --- I can't confirm that this would be slow for me.
When I saw those fights the fps was around 80-90. But when I saw all the fighters in circle the fps dropped around half of it (which decreased the average fps a lot).
Score 9588 Average fps 63,54
Ati 7870 Closed source driver, Amd phenom 2 3 cores at 3000mhz (1 disabled).
Wine 1.7.15
The screen resolution was 1776x1000 (very odd), couldnt set it 1920x1080, would crash.
