--- Comment #6 from Jon Rosen holy.smoking.floorboards.batman@gmail.com 2009-06-02 09:34:42 --- Having problems when I get that error message with Supreme Commander. When I start the game, the console output some (but not a whole lot) of stuff, but when I start the tutorial or go to start a campaign (and the loading screen finishes) the game crawls to a 1frame / 60+ seconds and I've found that this error starts displaying (along with some fixme messages that came up earlier and to which I don't think there is a problem with, right now):
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7e114810 "d3d9_main.c: d3d9_cs" wait timed out in thread 001f, blocked by 0009, retrying (60 sec)
Unlike the poster for this bug, the game doesn't actually crash, but does start to crawl at that 1frame/60+ second deal I mentioned before. As the error directly specifies d3d9, I guess it isn't surprising but the audio still actually plays throughout this.
I am currently using a native d3dx9_31.dll and msvbvm60.dll (the game wouldn't run without the first of these and the second is for another game) Other than that, this is actually from a clean Wine installation (version 1.1.22)

--- Comment #8 from Jon Rosen holy.smoking.floorboards.batman@gmail.com 2009-06-02 09:55:27 --- Even though the librarys complained about are different, the similarity is in the calling function (or at least the one throwing the error message) If you still think its different enough, though, I'll just post a new bug. This was the closest from the ones I was able to find.

There's no demo for this game since it's an addon mod to half-life.
It can be downloaded from http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns/download/ it requires half-life

Possible ATI/wine bug? I just recently switched from r600 mesa to fglrx 10.4. I did not encounter this issue with the former. I don't see any other hardware specifications in any of the other posts though.

--- Comment #13 from Pablo Castellano pablog.ubuntu@gmail.com 2010-06-11 11:33:58 --- I am also experiencing this issue in the shareware game Mus2000: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=11610
If I disable the characters voices I can play normally, otherwise the game gets frozen showing in the console:
rr:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x31c198f0 "winmm.c: WINMM_cs" wait timed out in thread 004c, blocked by 005c, retrying (60 sec) wine: Critical section 31c198f0 wait failed at address 0x7bc3561d (thread 004c), starting debugger... Can't attach process 005a: error 5
The game is free to download, so that you can make tests with it. I want to help to resolve it, so if you need any more information, just ask.

--- Comment #18 from rlazur i88gerbils@yahoo.com 2010-07-20 23:05:58 --- Okay. I ran NS with -autoconfig launch option, which reset everything. The issue has to do with opengl rendering on my system.
I can change to software rendering (-soft) or direct3d (-d3d) (lots of debug output on the latter), and this gets me passed the initial screen.
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x14976ec "?" wait timed out in thread 0023, blocked by 0024, retrying (60 sec)
This still pops up even in software rendering or Direct3d. So this is probably not the issue.

--- Comment #24 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net 2011-12-16 16:03:49 CST --- Hello,
it seems this bug is really cluttered with lots of different _unrelated_ issues ...
Getting "err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection" is a general indication that most likely a thread died/crashed while holding a lock (shared resource). There could be a gazillion of different reason resulting in this.
The initial bug reporter should retest this "Natural Selection" Half-Life addon again with _recent_ Wine version and report back.
All other reports belong to separate bugs or are already covered by other bugs.

Since this bug has been closed: abandoned, has a new bug been opened to address the original issue? Because it is exactly what is happening to me.
If need be, I can provide any necessary debug / relay / whatever logs.
