Summary: Sacred 2 - Fallen Angel startup problem Product: Wine Version: 1.1.6 Platform: Other OS/Version: other Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3d AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: fausap@unina.it
Created an attachment (id=16735) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=16735) debug output of run session
Sacred 2 - Fallen Angel doesn't work. The game register and activate itself in the right way, but it seems there's a problem with DirectX. I didn't find a way to use opengl instead, maybe there isn't.
Attached the output, running wine sacred2.exe
Thanks, Fausto

--- Comment #7 from Andreas Allacher ghost_zero5@gmx.at 2009-05-22 10:29:39 --- I only get to "Setup Engine" but that probably is related to the point mentioned in the App-DB - I mean the point about ATi graphic card and 64Bit OS. I have both of it :) However, I also have a nVidia graphic card, maybe I will try it with that one later.
The log itself ends with: fixme:d3d:IWineD3DDeviceImpl_CreateTexture Failed to create surface
I have attached the log though.

--- Comment #8 from Andreas Allacher ghost_zero5@gmx.at 2009-05-22 13:42:12 --- I was now able to get Sacred 2 to start by doing the installation with Wine v1.0.1, then copying the content of disk 2 into the Sacred 2 Installation directory as that wouldn't get installed otherwise AND then doing the Update to v2.40.0 with v1.0.1 Afterwards I upgraded to Wine v1.1.21 and extracted the d3dx9_36.dll into the system32 directory. After doing all this I was able to get into the main menu successfully and even starting a game and watching the Videos was possible. HOWEVER, there actually isn't much displayed, just the User-Interface-Part of the Menu and the Game, the Game-Graphics itself are not displayed and therefore the game is, of course, unplayable. However, this might also be related to me having an ATi graphic card and using 64Bit Linux.
Furthermore, though no graphic is displayed yet the game/menu reacts extremely slowly. Way slower than under Windows.
Btw.: The FBO setting didn't change much, actually I had even more graphic problems after trying out that one.

--- Comment #9 from Andreas Allacher ghost_zero5@gmx.at 2009-05-22 13:46:44 --- Sorry, for posting again but I forgot to mention that the game would crash (I believe after the Intro-Videos - or was it just before them?) IF I use too LESS details. Yes, that is right: It crashes when I set it to e.g. use the lowest details available. With Medium it starts working.

--- Comment #10 from Andreas Allacher ghost_zero5@gmx.at 2009-05-26 12:13:48 --- I now have tested the same with a nVidia card instead of an ATi and with v2.0.2 it works even with graphics BUT it is extremely slow. However, if I update the game to v2.40.0 it crashes with a nVidia card just before the menu (after the intro videos) and here it doesn't seem to be related to the details like the ATi card.

--- Comment #11 from Krzysztof Dębski fantom15@poczta.onet.pl 2009-07-19 16:27:53 --- I do not have a full version, but I tried demo.
Installation - successful, but it staled for about 5 minutes just before end, then it continued.
Startup - no problem, but menu was much to dark.
Game - almost everything was brown. It looked liked very thick brown fog. Some things like hair of the main character were rendered correctly.
I found that to fix menu and the game itself it is enough to set "Render details" to low in graphics configuration.
Even after setting everything to low the game was quite slow (about 10 FPS). I haven't noticed any bugs after setting "Render details" to low.
Whatever I set in settings I get: err:d3d:resource_init Out of adapter memory
The only difference I noticed when I changed "Render details" from low to medium was: err:d3d_surface:IWineD3DSurfaceImpl_ModifyLocation 0x1f2798: Surface does not have any up to date location
My configuration: Dell M1530 C2D T8300 2.4 GHz Mobile 2 GB RAM Ubuntu 32-bit NVidia 8600M GT 512MB (driver 180.44) Resolution 1440x900 Wine: 1.1.26, no hacks, no native overwrites

added download link to demo (1.7 GiB). Loads fine, in-game gfx ok, sound needs a bit tweaking (openal32 native then builtin).
