Summary: Gecko-using help viewer crashes application Product: Wine Version: 1.1.40 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: rm.riches@verizon.net
Created an attachment (id=26675) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=26675) log of crash
The help viewer (uses Gecko) crashes the application after clicking on the first link. This appears to be a regression. With Wine 1.1.39, the crash does not happen. With 1.1.40, the crash is 100% repeatable. It seems to happen with anything that uses the help viewer. I'll try to attach stdout/stderr. This is one easy way to reproduce the problem:
Install application using the PAF5AllLangs.exe installer. Select to install the "International Unicode Font". Deselect viewing the "Getting Started Document."
Start the application.
Click "new" to create a new file/database.
Enter a new filename--doesn't appear to matter.
Click "cancel" twice to get to an empty family view.
Click on the yellow question mark on the right-hand side of the tool bar just below the main menu bar.
Click on the first link, "How to move an individual to the primary ..."
Observer the application crash.

--- Comment #5 from Robert Riches rm.riches@verizon.net 2010-03-08 21:33:26 --- I'd love to be able to do a regression. However, with my employment situation and long commute, there's no way I could afford the several hours it takes to run a regression test.

--- Comment #6 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2010-03-15 05:41:24 --- I can confirm: with Wine-1.1.40 and gecko installed Personal Ancestral File 5 always crashes when I click on a link in the program's help viewer. This was not the case with 1.1.39.

Reverting the patch fixed the issue in the program.
This is the same regression that caused problem in: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22035

--- Comment #7 from Jacek Caban jacek@codeweavers.com 2010-03-15 14:40:50 --- Thanks for regression test. Please retest with current Git version (I couldn't reproduce the crash and it's very likely that my recent patches fixed the regression).

Thanks for regression test. Please retest with current Git version (I couldn't reproduce the crash and it's very likely that my recent patches fixed the regression).
That was fast, thanks. I've already tested with the latest git but something must be broken because wine crashes with an exception when installing gecko. I have no much spare time in the next 24 hours so I can't do another regression test right now. In the meantime someone will surely identify the issue that causes the crash.

--- Comment #9 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2010-03-16 12:24:48 --- Today's commits in git fixed the issue I encountered yesterday, so now I can confirm: with wine-1.1.40-191-g4b5f6ad the application doesn't crash anymore when clicking on a link in the help viewer.
