Summary: Error during the installation of the .net 2 in Trados Product: Wine Version: 0.9.49. Platform: HP OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wine-net AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: yolande@haneder.biz
I have been using the wineprefix from 0.9.44 where I could install IE and Gecko (not working in 0.9.49). I don't want to add this in the bug list from the .net component since I can't be sure where it actually come from but so far I have never seen anybody with this bug on the installation of .net 2.
This had been seen on the installation with 0.9.49 of .net2 on a prefix from 0.9.44. Maybe next time I can confirm it for a new prefix once the IE can be installed again (at the moment I get a message of an older IE already installed when I try the setup of IE6, which is not true).
You can find the log as attachment.

Here you can see when I am starting the repair function of dotnetfx.exe (was previously partially installed on my old wineprefix).
On the right I set the error message with further details. Unfortunately, I can't use the winedebug option to get more infos because otherwise I am entering in a loop.
I hope with these informations you can see a bit more in the problem. Note: using the function repair, I get 3 more lines further than my previous error but it is stopping as well anyway. I can however help you to understand what's behind the freezing point.

Remove / rename ~/.wine directory, try installing the program in question before submitting bugs.
One problem per bug (IE6 does not install because gecko is installed). .net2 has number of it's own bugs - search bugzilla.

--- Comment #4 from Yolande Haneder yolande@haneder.biz 2007-11-10 23:38:00 --- It is pretty much valid to me because the installation didn't go so far in the previous versions - even with the older prefix.
The bug about IE is not the point here. It is that the installation is not finishing and I know that after this step the net is partially working (but that's probably not something you want to hear).
I can wait anyway.

Say what? You complaining that older Wine versions didn't work for you?! Can you read everything you wrote here and in the previous comments and try to understand yourself what is the bug?
The bug about IE is not the point here. It is that the installation is not finishing and I know that after this step the net is partially working (but that's probably not something you want to hear).
Then why did you even mentioned IE? What is that some kind of a bad habit that everyone says "oh btw IE doesn't *". When it has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the bug?
Invalid because: 1. You failed to _clearly state_ what _IS_ the problem. 2. Specify step by step instructions how to reproduce it. 3. State how it supposed to work.

--- Comment #6 from Yolande Haneder yolande@haneder.biz 2007-11-11 00:54:37 --- I mentioned IE for sake of completeness. I could also have not mentioned it.
The installation of the .net is hanging just before completion. I reach this point because the other problem about the memory exception had been solved. This is however not critical to me because the net gets registered and the next tine I want to install Trados, it is noting that the .net is installed and proceeding further.
It is supposed (I think because I have never installed the net on Windows) to give me a nice window "installation finished" and not crash so that I don't have to restart the installation of Trados.
For steps to reach it, please contact James mckenzie. He knows about my steps and proceeded to the installed too and knows what to install BEFORE starting with the net (IE, Gecko, C++, required dlls). I have described it at least 4 times here and it seems I am still taken for an idiot because I have no clue about the specific wording.
And about the problems of the .net: it is mainly about page fault exceptions and connection problems to a server. I will report them separately as they come.

--- Comment #7 from Yolande Haneder yolande@haneder.biz 2007-11-11 01:40:18 --- FYI information (maybe one last time)
I am setting XP as default. Install IE6 Once IE has installed, type wine iexplore.exe in the Internet Explorer directory to prompt gecko. Check that the following dlls are there and if needed, add them: msvcirt.dll msvcp50.dll msvcp80.dll msvcr70.dll msvcr80.dll msvcrt.dll msvcrt10.dll msvcrt20.dll msvcrdt.dll
For these one there is no need to overwrite the existing ones.
They many not be all needed by the .net but the lacking of these dlls may cause a runtime error
fusion.dll required by the .net
Secur32.dll in wine has to be replaced or added. ( I am not using any dlls overwrite, I usually simply replace them in system 32)
then maybe the windoows installer is needed (is provided in my case by trados)
Install vcredist_x86.exe. The installation will not complete, it will crash because of a component not being able to register but AFTER it had installed the components the .net requires.
start the installation of the .net 2. At least James Mckenzie confirmed that he worked for him and had the page fault error which I have during the use of Traods.

Here you are with the last problems with a new installation on prefix 0.9.49, and this time it is REALLY hanging.
You can see there is an obvious problem with CoGetObjectContext
And please this time don't close it because the IE is not installable and it had solely been installed with Gecko!! THE NET IS STILL WORKING!! but hanging there.
And as for what I expect: I still expect that it does not crash anymore.

--- Comment #11 from Yolande Haneder yolande@haneder.biz 2007-11-16 07:08:18 --- As per the GIT of 15.11, dotnetfx is not entering anymore in a loop when using winedebug +all. Without using winedebug +all it is crashing quite at the beginning with winedebug +all it is crashing at the beginning of "initializing components!.
I attached a log of the last lines before exiting. Please not that if you want to reproduce the whole log, winedebug +all is taking about one hour to reach that point so it may be quite an extensive log.

--- Comment #13 from Yolande Haneder yolande@haneder.biz 2007-11-24 10:04:11 --- Making a clean install on the last GIT, I think that this bug is not far away to be resolved.
I am still getting a message that the installation failed, the net is still being seen as installed but there are 2 main differences from the last stable version.
First of all, the NET is starting without having to install the C++ first and is not crashing anymore as such.
I just get a message: err:msi:ITERATE_Actions Execution halted, action L"InstallFinalize" returned 1603
(after that it is very much proceeding to the installation of C++) at the same time I get the message that the installation failed. As far as I can understand the title of the action, the very last step is missing.
P.S. the tests on Wine with the windows installer had been done as far as I understand with the version 1. Trados is installing me the version 3.x. Maybe this is making a difference to the other tests for the .NET.
To me it is a very much improvement in itself because except for the msi error of the installer which may be cleared until the next stable release, I am on my way to clear the lasts problem of an installation hanging.

--- Comment #18 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2009-05-29 19:00:08 --- Bugs marked "HP, Linux" probably should have been marked "PC, Linux" as HP really is for HP's HP-PA or Itanium systems, and very few people have those.
