Bug ID: 45692 Summary: Bulletstorm Full Clip Edition: Environmental sounds to loud, voice and gun shoots way to silent Product: Wine Version: 3.14 Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: xaudio2 Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: christian.frank@gmx.de Distribution: ---
Hi,
Bullet Storm Full Clip Edition works when you disable all the ingame videos which will otherwise break the game. You need to add: -nostartupmovies
to the Steam startup option, then you will be able to get to the menu. To get into the missions, you need to disable the videos alltogether:
bForceNoMovies=True
in StormPCCookedEngine.ini and StormEngine.ini. Those files are located in "~/My Games/Bulletstorm Full Clip Edition/StormGame/Config"
Using the built-In dlls:
After you get to the menu you will notice that the overall sound is loud while klicking things is to silent. In the missions the overall environemnt sound is to loud while voice are barely noticable, also gun fire is barely noticable.
Changing the sound volumes in the options menu also does not work.
Using native xaudio dlls:
Sound is fine in the menu now, you can adjust the sound volume levels. Loading a savegame sadly leads to a complete loss of sound, Starting a new mission will have sound but without savegames that is useless.
If you need any special debugoutput, please ping me.
Many thanks ! Christian

--- Comment #1 from Olivier F. R. Dierick o.dierick@piezo-forte.be --- Probable dupe of bug 45311 (builtin xaudio2 doesn't handle volume mixing correctly).

--- Comment #2 from Christian christian.frank@gmx.de --- Hi,
i also gave FAudio a try, which sadly also does not work. Works fine in the menu, but crashes the game when entering a level with these 2 error messages:
Assertion failure at F3DAudioCheckCalculateParams (src/F3DAudio.c:342), triggered 1 time: 'pDSPSettings->DstChannelCount == ChannelCount && "Invalid channel count, DSP settings and speaker configuration must agree"'
After being able to klick on ignore, the following error message shows up:
Assertion failure at F3DAudioCalculate (src/F3DAudio.c:1502), triggered 1 time: '0 && "REVERB not implemented!"'
I can also press ignore here, but the game finally crashes after ignoring both issues 2 times.
Many thanks ! Christian

--- Comment #3 from Olivier F. R. Dierick o.dierick@piezo-forte.be --- Crashes with FAudio are a different issue and should be reported separately.

--- Comment #4 from Ethan Lee flibitijibibo@gmail.com --- Wine 4.3 has a new XAudio2 implementation as well as a new X3DAudio implementation (which is why everything's so loud), can this be re-tested? Note that Unreal Engine has an invalid X3DAudioCalculate parameter so a Debug version of FAudio will make that pop-up for the assertion failure, but it can be ignored.

Hi Ethan,
i retested with 4.3 and the behaviour nowwith Faudio is the same like using the native dlls:
Sound is fine in the menu now, you can adjust the sound volume levels. Loading a savegame sadly leads to a complete loss of sound, Starting a new mission will have sound but without savegames that is useless.
Thx, Christian

--- Comment #6 from Ethan Lee flibitijibibo@gmail.com --- This most likely means that there's a different Wine component that is causing the engine to bail out on the sound when loading a save file - I found that the sounds are actually playing just fine, but they have SetOutputMatrix calls setting all the volumes to 0. This may even occur on Windows... I didn't see any notable errors in my logs when checking this out.
