Summary: Yahoo and Oberon games don't display their start page properly Product: Wine Version: CVS/GIT Platform: PC URL: http://us1.cdn.oberon-media.com/products/oberon- games/exe/blood_ties- setup.exe?RefId=&origin=pgame_dl_u&ext=Blood_Ties- setup.exe OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: msclrhd@gmail.com
1. Install the yahoo/oberon game (e.g. Blood Ties in the URL provided) 2. Run the game 3. Install the Wine Gecko engine
You see a window called "GameShell" that has a blank content pane. This should be a HTML page with a link to play the trial game.
For the Yahoo games, I get a page from my service provider saying the link could not be found.

--- Comment #1 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2008-04-12 21:51:47 --- Are you using any workarounds? I get a black screen then an error about an access violation. Game never runs...
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12535
--- Comment #2 from Reece Dunn msclrhd@gmail.com 2008-04-13 03:44:27 --- No workarounds. I am using the latest git sources (4a30466ec...).
On my machine, gecko either does not install, in which case I get the "HTML rendering not supported" message, or it does and I either get a white client area or a message from my service provider saying that the web page is not found.
The only thing I did in the first case is to run `./wine iexplore` in order to properly install the gecko engine.

This is the console output from the Yahoo download of build-a-lot (http://get.games.yahoo.com/proddesc?gamekey=buildalot). There are various unimplemented function references, but I'm not sure how much is relevant.

--- Comment #6 from Reece Dunn msclrhd@gmail.com 2008-04-14 03:20:52 --- The DefaultDepth value in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file is 24. I haven't overridden this, so I'm assuming that the depth of my X11 session is 24.

--- Comment #7 from Reece Dunn msclrhd@gmail.com 2008-04-20 15:38:47 --- The Oberon/MSN games seem to be a duplicate of bug 6797. The Yahoo! games give a different error though, and are not fixed by the workaround (using native shlwapi and urlmon).

--- Comment #10 from Reece Dunn msclrhd@gmail.com 2008-12-26 09:41:12 --- I have created a howto for some oberon media games (e.g. http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=12326). This should work around the problems with the launch.exe program.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12535
--- Comment #11 from ricardo filipe ricardo_barbano@hotmail.com 2008-12-26 10:11:38 --- bug fixed then?
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12535
--- Comment #12 from Reece Dunn msclrhd@gmail.com 2008-12-26 10:38:00 --- The howto is a workaround - it avoids using Launch.exe to run and register the games.
This particular issue is fixed for Oberon Media, but there are other issues that affect Launch.exe working (bug 13459 and bug 16594).
I haven't re-tested Yahoo! games with recent git.

If the bug is still present in today's wine, but was not present in some earlier version of wine, please update version field to earliest known version of wine that had the bug. Thanks!

- replace/add following dlls into system32: shdocvw.dll shlwapi.dll urlmon.dll mshtml.dll jscript.dll MSLS31.DLL - do the dll overrides with winecfg

Is this still an issue in current (1.1.30 or newer) wine?
Indeed, it just displays a window with html code, which I think was exactly the same effect as with 1.1.19.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12535
--- Comment #17 from Reece Dunn msclrhd@gmail.com 2009-10-01 18:23:13 --- I have tested with 1.1.29 and with git from a few days ago. I still get the same issue using the games that have the old game launcher (e.g. build-a-lot 4); the newer launcher just fails horribly.
It works with native mshtml and jscript (from ie6 via winetricks). It also shows something with just native mshtml. I haven't tried it with the ActiveXObject support that was added recently (I tried a version before that).

This bug has not been updated for a year. Is this still an issue in current (1.5.28) or newer wine ? You may also close this as abandoned if you feel that that this is issue is no longer relevant to you.
