Summary: Launch Pad is weired Product: Wine Version: 1.1.0 Platform: Other OS/Version: other Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: critical Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: leo_zen@gmx.at
I have installed on my Ubuntu first Wine 1.0, then compiled manually 1.1.0. Since I thought I could upgrade to 1.1.1, I have run the install instructions as written on the Internet-page for Ubuntu. This time it worked, because previously it failed to work due to some kind of key-sign-issue.
Now I experience the very annoying problem, that the path of a launched exe is set relative to the user and not to the programm. e.g. the user is /home/user, the game is located in /home/user/game/dir1. The programm now takes /home/user as a home-path and scrambles now everything up. Especially for games this is annyoing, cause in the games there is no possibility to change the path.
Since it worked prior to the upgrade via installer, I heavily suspect the upgrade-package.

--- Comment #2 from leo leo_zen@gmx.at 2008-07-14 02:18:19 --- I have installed
http://www.lavalit.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=98a7b264dc5ab5654ad34b006466a3c5&...
in /home/user/game/OpenBor. (*install* = unpack and nothing more)
From there I launch OpenBor.exe, by doubleclicking on the exe-file. Prior to
the upgrade the paths were taken from that directory. i.e. it was searched in this dir, e.g. location of the Sounds, Pak, etc. it was written as well the Log into /home/user/game/OpenBor/Logs.
After upgrade, now everything is taken from /home/user and written as well into /home/user.
The programm lacks of configruation of the pathes, but anyhow it assumes that everything is relative to the Path were the exe is loacted. And frankly said, I have no idea, how Wine translates Unix paths to Windows paths. If it is a configuration issue, fine. But then I wonder, why the path was matched prior to the upgrade perfectly.
Since I see a changed behaviour after an upgrade as something serious, I have assigned different priority then 'normal'. Anyway, I am fine as well with 'normal', although I have my problems. But the decission is up to you.

--- Comment #3 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2008-07-14 15:04:37 --- What is your drive mapping? (ls -la ~/.wine/dosdevices)
Put the program into C: drive (default ~/.wine/drive_c) not arbitrary directory. Run programs properly with: cd /where/program/is wine program.exe

--- Comment #4 from leo leo_zen@gmx.at 2008-07-15 01:33:03 --- Uhu, well, that's not exactly the resolution as I wanted to have. But anyway, if this is the limiation within Wine, I would say, there is hardly a chance that this will be fixed anyhow. Especially since a fix is unclear how it might look like.
Therefore I would vote, to set the Status of the Bug at least to WONTFIX. And then close it.
