The installer for visual studio 2022 will open but it will not connect to the internet as it will say that nothing is available to install and there's nothing under developer news either.

the installer can seem to be stuck until you run the mouse over the loading animation if i don't misremember. it also seems there is a race condition because when run with winedebug=+all the installer will not be as glitchy.

because of the glitches you may not be able to see the error message. if you run the installer as windows 7 it will not be glitchy at all, but it will be glitchy if you run it as windows 10 or 11.

Everything was tested under a clean wine prefix except for this attempt at a workaround

When using this workaround if you try to close the installer and open it again it will take a long time to show things available to install

Only dotnet 4.7.2 seems to be necessary but I couldn't test it

seems i cannot get the setup program to finish in a clean wineprefix anymore so it never tries to download stuff anymore it just closes itself after extracting files, it now only works if dotnet 4.7.2 is installed, please disregard the nothing under available issue in a clean wineprefix
and it turns out dotnet 4.7.2 is all that is needed to run the setup program and the installer,
with only dotnet 4.7.2 enough glitches go away to see the error message saying the install operation failed,
and with it installed i can pick stuff to download and i can see that it tries to download stuff before saying the install operation failed

sorry i meant no workloads are available to install i think the setup program was able to download the installer in a clean wineprefix
