Summary: Portal 1/2 crashes when linked portal is in view with enabled GLSL [fglrx only]. Product: Wine Version: 1.3.18 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: NightNord@gmail.com
Well, that's an old bug, valid even for portal 1: when both portals are placed and you are looking at one of them - game crashes. That's only about GLSL enabled. With GLSL disabled, but with high shader settings portal 2 crashes after few seconds of looking at portal. With lower (medium or low) settings it works well.
No backtrace was ever produced by this bug - it just closes silently. fglrx: 11.3, HD4500.

--- Comment #1 from Valentin Hegedis valentin.hegedis@gmail.com 2011-04-20 12:38:17 CDT --- So... How do I disable GLSL?
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26863
--- Comment #2 from Night Nord NightNord@gmail.com 2011-04-20 13:32:55 CDT --- By setting appropriate registry key: http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys Or by using winetricks: winetricks glsl-disable
But game is unplayable with disabled GLSL anyway, due to bug #26862

--- Comment #3 from Night Nord NightNord@gmail.com 2011-04-20 14:03:47 CDT --- BTW, I've managed to produce a backtrace and posted a bug on unofficial ATI bugzilla. Let's hope for best, but I wouldn't count on that too much... http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=113

--- Comment #4 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2011-04-20 15:08:49 CDT --- Why have you opened a bug here if it's an fglrx bug?
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26863
--- Comment #5 from Night Nord NightNord@gmail.com 2011-04-20 15:31:32 CDT --- 1) to track issue in AppDB (tests are sinking too fast by dozens of all-works nvidia tests). 2) to prevent others from posting similar bug ;)
Anyway, we can't know for sure that this is definitely driver's bug unless AMD will confirm and fix it. It could be wine bug too (probability is small, but it could be) and other drivers (read: nvidia) just have some magic workaround about it.

--- Comment #6 from Jerome Leclanche adys.wh@gmail.com 2011-04-20 17:49:06 CDT --- This seems like a repro of bug 23118 (cf comment 1), handled worse by fglrx. Probably dupe.
Can you try setting the portal depth to 0 or 1?
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26863
--- Comment #7 from Night Nord NightNord@gmail.com 2011-04-21 02:33:46 CDT --- You mean r_portal_stencil_depth? I already reported it into AMD's bugzilla: 1 - fail 0 - not fail (for portal 2). I'll test it on portal 1.
When portal depth == 0 it won't fail, but if I'll try to get though portal - it will. I suppose it's about portal decorations or effect of portal opening, not about portal itself.

I'm curious - is it ok to link to shader objects with main functions in single shader? (there is no other "Compiling shader object 53")

--- Comment #10 from Grazvydas Ignotas notasas@gmail.com 2011-04-24 14:34:55 CDT --- It works with older fglrx. Depending on your setup you may need to go back to 10.12 or even 10.9.
I suggest everyone affected to post a comment on ATI bug page, to get more dev attention: http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=113

--- Comment #13 from Pavel Valach valach.pavel@gmail.com 2011-05-15 06:05:33 CDT --- I must say that with the newest version (1.3.19) and ati-drivers 11.4 on Gentoo x86, Portal 1 does not crash for me. It's only massively slowing down the game when I'm looking through the portals and it is clipping commentary nodes under certain conditions.
