Summary: msvideo problems when running M1.EXE Product: Wine Version: 0.9.59. Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: other Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: Makitk@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=12960) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=12960) Copy+paste error messages from Konsole window.
When trying to run Sogna's Viper M1 through Wine, msvideo keeps saying it needs to be fixed with a whole lot of fixme:msvideo:Draw* messages. In addition to that, the game's viewer is locked to the top-left of the desktop and glitches heavily. It stays black as well, showing only text whenever text options are shown in game. I'm not sure if it's related to the preloader errors warning me it can't reserve range 00000000-60000000 or "err:dosmem:setup_dos_mem Cannot use first megabyte for DOS address space, please report" messages I get, but I think I've had these messages before in a different OS setup. M1 starts by opening M1.EXE, then opening SGS.EXE through M1.EXE. Running SGS.EXE without M1.EXE results in a failsafe built in SGS.EXE and a window saying you should start up with M1.EXE.

Please upgrade to latest Wine version. What video card, drivers?
I did upgrade to latest Wine version (Wine-1.0-RC1), as you can see with the "wine-1.0-rc1 debug trace, same bug." attachment.

It seemed Vitaliy Margolen was confused by it, so I changed it, but ok. I'll leave it as is now.

--- Comment #6 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2008-11-12 14:27:12 --- Is this still an issue in current (1.1.8 or newer) wine?

Is this still an issue in current (1.1.8 or newer) wine?
Yes it is.
The first few lines in terminal say: fixme:msvideo:DrawDibBegin wFlags == 0x00000020 not handled fixme:msvideo:DrawDibRealize (0x1, 0x1fc, 0), stub fixme:msvideo:DrawDibRealize (0x1, 0x1fc, 0), stub fixme:msvideo:DrawDibRealize (0x1, 0x1fc, 0), stub fixme:msvideo:DrawDibRealize (0x1, 0x1fc, 0), stub fixme:msvideo:DrawDibChangePalette (0x1, 0x0000000a, 0x000000ec, 0x420168), stub
After that it pretty much seems to repeat the last two lines until the program ends.
It also does not show the videos and seems to lock the video window to the upper-left corner while the window of the program is centered on my 1600x1200 desktop resolution.
After quitting the program, and after wine shuts down fully, the black square still persists on what is shown on the desktop and I have to move the windows about until they need to be redrawn (i.e. move them out of view so the blackness disappears out of the actual screen and then back) before the black bits disappear completely.
This is with Wine 1.1.8 on Kubuntu 64bit.

Yes it is. I'm adding a new attachment with the output of wine being ran through Konsole after this reply. I forgot how to debug, however.. so if that's needed, please let me know how to do that again. >_>;

Note: I had to CTRL+C after ending the program. Konsole didn't notice the program had ended and remained on the last line.

I last tested it in wine 1.1.32. The bug was still present in 1.1.32.

--- Comment #13 from Henry Kroll nospam@thenerdshow.com 2010-04-05 17:03:59 --- Everlong is affected by what looks like this same bug
The crashing video is Movie/Logo.avi $ ffmpeg -i Movie/Logo.avi [avi @ 0x26a35e0]sample size (2) != block align (4) Input #0, avi, from 'Movie/Logo.avi': Duration: 00:00:14.01, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 4741 kb/s Stream #0.0: Video: msvideo1, rgb555le, 320x240, 20 tbr, 20 tbn, 20 tbc Stream #0.1: Audio: pcm_s16le, 44100 Hz, 2 channels, s16, 1411 kb/s
$ file Movie/Logo.avi Movie/Logo.avi: RIFF (little-endian) data, AVI, 320 x 240, 20.00 fps, video: uncompressed, audio: uncompressed PCM (stereo, 44100 Hz)
There is nothing special about the movie except it is an incredibly cheesy 14 seconds of wasted time. Totem plays it just fine. It does not even use mp3 encoding. Wine should be able to play it. ffplay plays it, too. Wine's msvideo1 decoder is based on ffmpeg. http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2004-January/009367.html http://wiki.multimedia.cx/index.php?title=Microsoft_Video_1

I can't test at the moment, but nobody has reported it as being an issue for over three years now.

--- Comment #19 from Martin Sourada martin.sourada@gmail.com 2013-08-15 14:34:54 CDT --- I'd like to request reopening. I've tried Sogna's Viper RSR (and V6R FWIW) which uses the same game interface as M1 with the same result as the original reporter -- sound works, text displays (Japanese), but no pictures, neither game menus nor game-play scenes. Just solid black (or occasionally white with black stripe where text appears). Wine 1.6 on Fedora 19 here. Probably relevant debug messages are the same (apart from the possibly irrelevant OLE error):
fixme:msvideo:DrawDibBegin wFlags == 0x00000020 not handled err:ole:CoInitializeEx Attempt to change threading model of this apartment from multi-threaded to apartment threaded fixme:msvideo:DrawDibRealize (0x1, 0x140044, 0), stub fixme:msvideo:DrawDibChangePalette (0x1, 0x0000000a, 0x000000ec, 0x4301a0), stub
The last two get repeated depending on scene (apparently, sometimes only the first one repeats). Intel graphics here if that's relevant.
