--- Comment #1 from winetest@luukku.com --- You need to attach the console output before the crash and also the backtrace of the crash.
Also what wine --version says?

Your backtrace says the Wine version is 1.9.21 (Staging). Where did you get Wine from, and do you have more than one version installed?

--- Comment #10 from sg7jimr@gmail.com --- A number of users have been discussing this issue in the Star Trek Online forums. From trial and error it seems Wine 1.6.2 is not affected by this problem, and running the game on Wine 1.6.2 can lead to the game working again in later versions. The problem appears to be related to pixel shader compilation, the compile is failing on recent Wine versions but 1.6.2 succeeds and then anything it has compiled is OK in any version.
It is possible to run the game without Arc and the initial description of crashing on the loading screen is the same behavior as running the game directly.

Could you / someone git bisect between 1.6.2 and 1.9.x? http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting

--- Comment #12 from charlie.boothe@warriorlife.net --- Is there a Wine 1.6.2 package for os x?
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41625
--- Comment #13 from sg7jimr@gmail.com --- It looks like this is a duplicate of bug 33979. The product supplies the D3DCompiler_42.dll but not the D3DCompiler_47.dll (in a "Live" folder in the installation tree). Copying the supplied D3DCompiler_42.dll to D3DCompiler_47.dll seems to fix the problem. Not sure how to do a git bisect since it stops crashing in all releases after some key files are processed in a working version.

It's not certain that the OP is experiencing the bug you mention (although I imagine you are probably right). Charlie, can you attach your terminal output? See https://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log for instructions.
No need for a bisect just yet.

--- Comment #16 from charlie.boothe@warriorlife.net --- Also, I read an earlier comment about running the STO launcher directly without arc. How can is that possible? I thought Arc made it so that you can only run STO through the Arc app.

--- Comment #19 from Stefanescu A stefanescu.a@mail.com --- STO works with wine 7.0 staging but it has some problems on ubuntu 20.04.
When the game downloads new content for missions it may hang on the load screen between different stages of the mission. If the process is killed and the game started again it will resume the mission.
It doesn't have problems with content that is already downloaded. Also the launcher hangs when updating the game and needs to be restarted several times to finish the update
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41625
--- Comment #20 from sg7jimr@gmail.com --- I don't believe the new issue is related to this old one. While I can't say it is fixed on the Mac platform, it started working on Linux around that 2.8 version.
There is indeed a new patching bug which was not present in Wine Stable 6.0 but soon appeared in the development versions and is still present in 7.0. When it happens there is a reference to a jmp_buf printed to the terminal, I have not captured the exact message. It should be easy to reproduce if a user starts with just the Star Trek Online executable and lets it download the whole game from scratch. I think however this bug should be closed.
Using 6.0 to patch and disabling on-demand patching mostly works around the issue.
