Bug #: 29811 Summary: Dead Space 2 Crashes ALSA Input/Output Error Product: Wine Version: 1.4-rc2 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: maquis196@yahoo.co.uk Classification: Unclassified
During gameplay the game will lock up (game still displayed, X still responsive, can alt-tab out). It will happen seemingly random (although it's happening more frequently now anecdotal - now being towards the end of the game). The only error I get is;
ALSA lib pcm.c:7319:(snd_pcm_recover) cannot recovery from underrun, prepare failed: Input/output error
Have to kill wineserver to recover. Running amd64 Gentoo with pulseaudio 1.1. During the game the audio works perfectly and this issue is the only reason I can't put the game down as gold rating.
Final note, it never happens in the same place twice and the gaps between crashes is decreasing like I've said.

--- Comment #1 from K1773R K1773R@darkgamex.ch 2012-02-05 16:10:45 CST --- this dosnt looks like a alsa problem, the game dosnt send any data to alsa so theres a buffer underun which cant be recovered (because no sound data available). can you add a backtrace?

--- Comment #2 from Christopher May maquis196@yahoo.co.uk 2012-02-05 16:19:37 CST --- Nothing else happens when the bug hits so a backtrace doesn't happen (unless I can trigger it somehow?). Can you recommend some winedebug options to play the game with? Like I said it doesn't happen early (something I've noticed, its always after a good 30mins minimum of gameplay).

--- Comment #3 from K1773R K1773R@darkgamex.ch 2012-02-05 16:25:56 CST --- look at the wiki how to debug, if you cant find it just search for WINEDEBUG (env). if a game/program locks up and isnt filling the alsa buffer, then you will get your fixme message, so alsa shouldnt be the reason for the freez (unless they changed it).

--- Comment #4 from Christopher May maquis196@yahoo.co.uk 2012-02-05 16:40:48 CST --- Created attachment 38716 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=38716 dead space 2 crash
Ctrl-c in terminal after latest crash and got more output. I'm not too familiar with winedebug, I know how to run it but I'm never told which flags to use as default when posting a bug (and my games always fail to work with +all being used).
Hopefully this output sheds some light on the problem!

--- Comment #6 from Andrew Eikum aeikum@codeweavers.com 2012-02-06 10:00:33 CST --- A +tid,+seh log might be informative. If it's actually audio related (that error does seem really suspicious), there are log channels at http://wiki.winehq.org/Sound.

--- Comment #7 from Christopher May maquis196@yahoo.co.uk 2012-02-06 14:45:38 CST --- Typical, when I'm playing the game it happens often, when I complete it and try and reproduce a bug it simply won't do it.
I'll keep trying and try and hit it. Might just leave the game running later, do it that way.

--- Comment #8 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for 2 years. Is this still an issue in current (1.7.16 or newer) wine?
