This game installs and starts perfectly from Steam (although it requires the same Virtual Memory fix as its predecessor). When I attempt to start a new game, it crashes with a page fault. I used "d3dx9_43" when trying to play this game.

--- Comment #2 from tomas191191@gmail.com 2013-07-08 07:24:19 CDT --- That was pretty sloppy of me. I assumed blocker was the right option since this bug completely stops the game from working. Thanks for the correction.

Did you try to disable gameoverlayrenderer.dll ?
Tried it now, results are identical as far as I can tell, except for the fact that "gameoverlayrenderer" no longer shows up in the module list of the backtrace.

What's the current status? That virtual memory thing has been fixed in wine. No need to manually do it again.
It still crashes, but I'm not sure it crashes on the same point as before. I just installed it on Wine 1.7.22 and launched it. First it crashed just before the intro screen, while "Creating new game...". Launching it again, it successfully got to the main menu. I went to options and increased the resolution, whereupon it crashed again. Launching the game a third time, the resolution had been successfully changed and I clicked Start game, where it crashed again. I'm attaching the backtrace of the final crash.

--- Comment #9 from Béla Gyebrószki gyebro69@gmail.com --- Created attachment 51932 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=51932 terminal output + backtrace (wine-1.7.47-196-g4e6e9a1)
I can confirm the crash in SW:TFU 2 (Steam) using recent Wine. The game loads to the menu properly, I can create a new profile and change various in-game options, but the game crashes immediately after starting a new game. Installing Windows Media Player+quartz/devenum, native d3dx9 doesn't help.
After crashing, the game creates a minidump in the user's profile directory. I caught 2 different backtraces, both of them point to wined3d. The attached log contains Wine terminal output plus 2 of those backtraces.

This is probably a different issue. Can you reproduce it regularly? A new bug report with a backtrace could be useful.
