Summary: Wine Regression with Tactical Ops - Unreal engine based game Product: Wine Version: 0.9.56. Platform: Other OS/Version: other Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: critical Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: jacobidiego@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=11141) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=11141) WINEDEBUG=+loaddll,+module wine ....TacticalOps.exe
Tactical Ops 3.5 is a Total Modification of Unreal Tournament 99.
This game was a Gold in 0.9.55 and in 0.9.56 is complete Garbage.
It gives the next errors and doesn't open at all:
err:advapi:service_control_dispatcher pipe connect failed err:module:LdrInitializeThunk "Core.dll" failed to initialize, aborting err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"Z:\home\data\Juegos\Tactical Ops 35\System\TacticalOps.exe" failed, status c0000005
Sadly this is the only game that i play, so i will have to go back to 0.9.55.
Core.dll is a dll located together with the .exe. Is part of the Unreal Engine, so i think that any Unreal Engine based game will work on wine 0.9.56, and those, all golds will become garbarge.
I leave you with some logs.

Do also add Keyword "Regression" above. And this is not critical. Correct severity is Normal. Do change that, too. (I cannot.)
Critical Critical problem that prevents all applications from working Normal For an application crash or loss of functionality

apt-get build-dep wine wine-dev
gives:
0 actualizados, 126 se instalarán, 0 para eliminar y 19 no actualizados. Necesito descargar 141MB de archivos. Se utilizarán 399MB de espacio de disco adicional después de desempaquetar.
I have to download 144 Mb, plus 90 Mb with git ?!?!?!?!?
But apt-get install wine-dev
gives:
0 paquetes actualizados, 3 nuevos instalados, 0 para eliminar y 19 sin actualizar. Necesito descargar 5384kB de ficheros. Después de desempaquetar se usarán 29,1MB.
Is the same to do the last one to compile wine?
It seems like the componnent "module" is the bugged one, how many patches has had been for this module?
Hardware: Athlon X2 4000+ GeForce 7025 onboard 2 Gb DDR2 sadly Ubuntu 7.10 AMD64. Something else?
It was a gold on 0.9.55

--- Comment #4 from Timo-Heikki Mäkelä imaxfun@gmail.com 2008-03-05 15:36:25 --- Ok... So, do chage Hardware tag to x64 and OS to Linux.
Now, the developers will need to know _exactly_ which patch broke your game, not just that it happened between 0.9.55 and .56. You can best help them and yourself by running the regression test according to http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting to find out that exact patch. As you already know it was between .55 and .56, it shouldn't take that long.

--- Comment #5 from Diego Jacobi jacobidiego@gmail.com 2008-03-05 16:37:21 --- Again:
Is the command: "apt-get install wine-dev" enought to install wine dependences ? or i have to install it with build-dep? The difference is 350 MB of installed programms and 150 of downloaded

--- Comment #6 from scguy318 nodisgod@yahoo.com 2008-03-05 20:27:37 --- You'll need to run apt-get build-dep wine in order to obtain all the necessary dependencies for building Wine. wine-dev is just the winelib build stuff if I'm not mistaken.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11855
--- Comment #7 from Diego Jacobi jacobidiego@gmail.com 2008-03-05 21:44:48 --- There are lots of missing package which are not installed with build-dep:
I have tryed to find them by hand writing its name followed with -dev:
aptitude install libxcursor-dev libxi-dev xshm-dev xshape-dev libxxf86vm-dev libxrender-dev libxrandr-dev libxinerama-dev libxcomposite-dev libxml2-dev libxslt-dev libhal-dev libsane-dev libgphoto2-dev liblcms-dev libldap-dev libcapi20-dev libcupsys2-dev libfontconfig-dev libssl-dev libjpeg-dev libpng-dev opengl-dev libfreetype6-dev
But some doesn't even exists by its single name. This is the output that i get when trying to install all remaining development packages.

Searching for xshm and xshape doesnt gives any result. I dont know what is the correct name for opengl-dev but searching for opengl only shows bindings for other languages than C.
Much of the dlls listed as missing by ./configure are already installed by build-dep like libssl, libxml2, etc.
I dont know about the others, but i need opengl to test the game.
I am really tired of Ubuntu's repositories and being this a 64 bits system it is even smaller and really out of date. But i have had recently some complications moving to another distro.
What can i do?

Now complains with this:
configure: libxxf86vm development files not found, XFree86 Vidmode won't be supported. configure: libhal development files not found, no dynamic device support. configure: libcapi20 development files not found, ISDN won't be supported.
configure: Finished. Do 'make depend && make' to compile Wine.
But i do have all of it.
root@diego:/home/diego/wine-git# aptitude search libxxf86vm-dev libhal-dev libcapi20-dev i libcapi20-dev - libraries for CAPI support i libhal-dev - Hardware Abstraction Layer - development files i libxxf86vm-dev - X11 XFree86 video mode extension library (development
I will try to compile any way but support for some stuff will be disabled.

--- Comment #10 from Diego Jacobi jacobidiego@gmail.com 2008-03-06 09:05:32 --- It havent work !!!! I have spent 3 hours on that.
And i can not go back to wine 0.9.55 because it was removed from the repos: http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt/pool/main/w/wine/
Why only versions .19, .53 and .56 are stored and not .55? And only .56 is for ubuntu 7.10.
After compiling lots of times with "make depend && make", the game never opens so i write "git bisect bad" until no patches left and the game still doesn't open. The errors are the same.
I have also updated another game emulator in the appDB as Platinum for 0.9.55 and is garbage now in 0.9.56, this is WinKawaks. It crashes with:
wine: Unhandled page fault on execute access to 0x00732060 at address 0x732060 (thread 0009), starting debugger... Unhandled exception: page fault on execute access to 0x00732060 in 32-bit code (0x00732060). ...
I was specting to go back to 0.9.55 binaries, but it is not there. 0.9.55 was an step up but 0.9.56 is a big step down.

--- Comment #11 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2008-03-06 10:48:26 --- Probably needs some symlinks, if I had to guess, but I don't use 64-bit, so I can't confirm.

--- Comment #13 from Diego Jacobi jacobidiego@gmail.com 2008-03-06 12:44:34 --- libXxf86vm is not on the list of the wiki, so
ln -s /usr/lib32/libXxf86vm.so.1 `pwd`/lib32/libXxf86vm.so
that reduces one error.
The remainning errors are:
... configure: libhal development files not found, no dynamic device support. configure: libcapi20 development files not found, ISDN won't be supported.
configure: Finished. Do 'make depend && make' to compile Wine.
libcapi20 is not on the lib32 dirs but it is on the lib64 dir, anyway, i think that i dont need ISDN to test the game. And libhal IS on the lib32 dir and was linked to wine-git/lib32/
diego@diego:~/wine-git$ ls lib32/ libcrypto.so libgphoto2.so libpng.so libXinerama.so libcups.so libhal.so libsane.so libXi.so libfontconfig.so libjpeg.so libssl.so libxml2.so libfreetype.so liblber.so libX11.so libXrandr.so libGL.so liblcms.so libXcomposite.so libXrender.so libGLU.so libldap_r.so libXcursor.so libxslt.so libgphoto2_port.so libldap.so libXext.so libXxf86vm.so
I dont know if the problem could be related to hal but i think that it shouldnt.
mmmmm, i have compiled all with make depend && make as configure says, and then run it with ./wine but i didn't make install.
Regression wiki page says that i should do "make clean && make" and WineOn64bit page says "make && make install"
Now i have removed wine 0.9.56 from my system with apt and installed wine 0.9.55 by hand with gdebi downloading from that page but it doesn't work now. :'( Now with wine 0.9.55 Both games crashes too and with more traces.
A couple of days ago i was having a perfectly working wine 0.9.55 and i have updated lots of entries in appDB, then i decided to change linux distro, but due to some errors on the CD i have to come back to ubuntu and install it again. When installing wine again it installs the new version 0.9.56 which wasnt available before formatting.
I will continue doing some more tests to be sure

--- Comment #14 from Diego Jacobi jacobidiego@gmail.com 2008-03-06 13:14:17 --- Well, it was an invalid after all. :'(
I have my games and some programs and all multimedia stuff mounted on a logical volume with reiserfs. My fstab line was:
/dev/data/data /home/data reiserfs defaults,user,exec 0 0
I check this just because i remember that i have readed that wine has some issues with the way that the partition is mounted. So i checked my /etc backup and changed the line to:
/dev/data/data /home/data reiserfs defaults,user,noatime,exec 0 0
And it works !!! only with some less fps but i have to test it better.
It was all a reinstall error and i loose a lot of time to find it. I dont know why does wine needs this trick.
Thanks any way. Cheers.
