Summary: cannot compile due to flex set too high for CentOS 5.4 Product: Wine Version: 1.1.36 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P3 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: ToddAndMargo@verizon.net
Hi All,
Would you please back off on the revision required for "flex", so that we can compile wine-1.1.36.tar.bz2 under CentOS 5.4?
Many thanks, -T
./wineinstall Wine Installer v1.0 ... checking whether flex is recent enough... no configure: error: Your flex version is too old. Please install flex version 2.5.33 or newer.

--- Comment #1 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2010-01-08 16:30:19 --- That version of flex is over a decade old (1999). CentOS should really be providing a more up to date package (2.5.33 was released in 2006).

Hi Austin,
I have no prayer of getting CentOS upstream (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) to upgrade this package. That is just the way it is. I have a much, much higher chance of getting you guys to modify your requirements. Is it possible for you to support CentOS's version? If not, I am frozen at 1.1.35 and can not test any updates. That really stinks.
Many thanks, -T

Hi Vitaliy,
If you could give me a quick synopsis, it would help me with my bug report to RH. They especially respond to security bugs, if there is a security bug in flex you could point out.
Many thanks, -T

Not my decision, but I'd say it's unlikely. You could always compile it yourself...

--- Comment #9 from Todd Chester ToddAndMargo@verizon.net 2010-01-10 17:09:37 --- Came up with a workaround. Fedora Core 7's flex RPM installs in CentOS 5.4 without problem. Got mine from:
ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/archive.fedoraproject.org/fedora/linux/updates/7/i386/flex-2.5.33-9.fc7.i386.rpm
Filed a request at Red Hat for flex 2.5.33 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=554210

--- Comment #10 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2010-01-11 08:35:39 --- (In reply to comment #5) For one old version(s) are not reentrant which adds lots of unnecessary complexity to the code: http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-devel/2009-December/080855.html
