When minimizing, game graphics "freeze into" the whole screen except for the gnome status bar and the upper-left corner. Interaction with the frozen area is not possible.
It is, however, possible to move the "game window" around via the move function in the context menu of the status bar entry. See upcoming screenshot.

Is this still an issue in current (1.1.22 or newer) wine?
This is still an issue in version 1.3.15 on Ubuntu 10.10 32bit.
Of course adding -windowed to the launch option works around this problem. Other symptoms still apply as previously described.

--- Comment #12 from Simon Tomoko wackyblend@gmail.com 2013-01-29 06:00:37 CST --- I had been using Wine 1.3 with Kubuntu 10.10, to work around this problem I set a "global shorcut" just to mimize the Window using KWIN system and not the Guild Wars icon. I believe this error existed because of conflicts with the game's desire to manage the window status. Using the KWIN shortcut is about the only way to minimize and recover to full screen again. Recently I upgraded to Wine 1.5.3 and Kubuntu 12.04 this seem less of a problem and also corrected some sound issues. If it is still an issue I hope this information can help develop the Wine software.

--- Comment #13 from Simon Tomoko wackyblend@gmail.com 2013-02-02 09:48:37 CST --- Further testing with Wine 1.5.22, minimize does not appear to be an issue. However using the Guild Wars "restore" icon does cause issues. The title bar is not accessable, in some cases background windows are not accessable, windows cannot be resized. ALT+TAB will not function and the user must use Guild Wars F11 to reset to Full Screen. Some but not all of these issues happen when using Wine config with the "Allow Windows Manager to Control Windows" unchecked. Again this issue seems to be more related to the game's desire to control the size and appearance of the window and less to do with the version of Wine used or the desktop environment.

--- Comment #14 from sworddragon2@aol.com --- Testing with Wine 1.7.8 I'm also seeing some issues:
- Switching from fullscreen to window mode with the button in the titel bar causes the game to visually minimize but it does still catch the entire screen (minimizing and recovering the window is a workaround to fix this). - Minimizing and recovering the game causes the window to move its position to a complete different location (the bottom of the screen is preferred in a way that the most parts of the window are out of the visual screen area). - Pressing F11 in window mode will cause the game to change to fullscreen but it will also hang until F11 is pressed again (which causes the game to go in window mode again).
Environment:
Operating system: Linux 3.12 Graphics card: GeForce 8600 GT Graphics driver: NVIDIA 331.20 X-Server: X.Org 1.14.5 Window manager: Openbox 3.5.2

--- Comment #16 from sworddragon2@aol.com --- Created attachment 51365 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=51365 Terminal output with Wine 1.7.38
At least I can reproduce all my listed issues with Wine 1.7.38. On additional testing I'm also noticing the following:
- After switching from fullscreen to window mode (and the input got fixed with the workaround posted before) and switching back again the game internally goes into fullscreen mode but the window doesn't. - Switching then to window mode again and trying to go back to fullscreen mode causes that the window does only increase a little in size while staying in window mode.
In the attachments is the terminal output that tests all these 5 issues.

--- Comment #18 from Janne janne.kekkonen@gmail.com --- Tested with wine 9.0
GW starts in full screen mode. Switching to windowed mode and changing size works.
From windowed mode to full screen mode kind of works. On my test when maximize button was clicked, GW window was hidden, only GW tab was visible in panel / taskbar. When GW tab was clicked, GW opened to full screen mode.
