What protection does it use?
Uses SafeDisc 4.30.000 that maybe the issue its perhaps using a later version which wine doesn't support yet rather than a regression.

I don't know how and the explanation on how to is so complicated that there isn't going to a lot of regression testing volunteers anytime soon, we need a wizard for this.

A lot of mortal users do regression testing, consider yourself not worse than them.

--- Comment #6 from Michael xlurp@free.fr 2009-02-25 09:30:42 --- Ok, it's me say Rome Total War detect wine as debugger I have try some versions :
1.1.9 to 1.1.12 RTW detect nothing and launch normally 1.1.13 to 1.1.15 RTW detect wine as a debugger and refused to launch the game
I use the official gentoo ebuild on a 64-bits installation for each test
if i understand comments i must do the regression tests to find what patch introduce problems

As Dan pointed out, it's really easy, it just looks complicated.
You can use git bisect auto to do it automatically, but that would require you to write a script to test for the bug, which would be more difficult.

--- Comment #8 from Stephen Mills smills15@cox.net 2009-03-03 20:41:56 --- It still works for me on version 1.1.15 compiled from the git repo on a debian machine. Though I have seen this game complain about running in a debugger while trying to use winedbg. I would be willing to do the reg test if I can reproduce the error.

--- Comment #9 from Stephen Mills smills15@cox.net 2009-03-22 18:54:06 --- Well, I did a clean install of the game using wine version 1.1.17 and still can't reproduce the error. Can the guys with the error please post some more info about their setups (wine version, game patch level, etc)? That might help locate the problem.

--- Comment #11 from rygle pittos@post.com 2009-07-22 06:27:11 --- I managed to reproduce this bug when running Wine 1.1.26 and Rome Total War 1.6 (With Barbarian expansion) and changing the Windows version to Win98 while trying to sort out some graphical bugs. Stopped occurring as soon as I set Wine back to either Win2000 or WinXP. Further testing revealed problems with 95, 98 & ME but not 2000, XP, Vista, 2003 or 2008. So it's something that is fairly obscure and probably will not be an issue for Wine going forwards.
