http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31630
--- Comment #2 from Graham Inggs graham@nerve.org.za 2012-09-07 02:37:24 CDT --- Thank you for your suggestion. I tried 'winetricks dotnet20' and rundll32.exe no longer crashes, instead I get a message that this application requires .NET Framework 2.0 SP2.
I then tried 'winetricks dotnet20sp2', but I still get the message as above.
I also tried installing the Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP ( http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29401 ), but that resulted in hotfixinstaller crashing in a similar way to rundll32.exe.

--- Comment #3 from Yaron Shahrabani sh.yaron@gmail.com 2012-12-11 19:00:29 CST --- Created attachment 42785 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=42785 A timezone name crash happens when trying to install BlueStacks App Player
I tried installing BlueStacks v 0.7.8.829 with Wine 1.5.19 on Ubuntu 12.04 x86_64.
After launching the main setup files I noticed there's some sort of file extraction happening. I went into the Temp folder and noticed that there are files extracted there but these are deleted once the installer crashes. So, what I did was to break the installer before it crashes so it won't delete the files. I managed to get the files by doing this. When I tried running the exe file I managed to extract I got the error message in the attached log. Seems like it's a ThinInstaller and it can't get the timezone name and this is why it doesn't work, there are several more lines but this is the first one (There's also something about missing files after that one).
I can run more tests if needed.
Kind regards, Yaron Shahrabani.

--- Comment #4 from Graham Inggs graham@nerve.org.za 2012-12-12 03:32:14 CST --- Well spotted, Yaron!
See the suggestion in this thread to change the timezone to something more common: http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=16566
My timezone is 'Africa/Johannesburg' and it gives this error.

Thanks a lot Graham Inggs! ☺
I managed to pass the TZ name barrier but the installation crashed and all I got was this backtrace that appeared right after the installation began.
The difference is my Wine version is 1.5.19 and my Ubuntu version is 12.04 x86_64.
Kind regards, Yaron Shahrabani.

--- Comment #6 from Vincent Povirk madewokherd@gmail.com 2013-08-21 16:22:20 CDT --- That crashing process is using Mono. With native .NET the install gets further but eventually hangs, with console output suggesting a deadlock.

--- Comment #12 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net --- Hello folks,
since Vincent indicated a different behaviour when using .NET Framework in comment #6, there might be also a Wine-Mono problem here.
Since no one bothered to provide up-to-date crash info with recent Wine 1.7.x and Mono it's hard to tell if the problem with Wine-Mono is still present.
The crash during rollback procedure is only of secondary interest though.
I described the real problem in bug 39016

Why don't you try to download and install the program yourself ?
To download BlueStack from official website with a linux browser, go directly to http://cloud.bluestacks.com/api/getdownload
Today, this is version 2.0.2.5623, and now they provide full installer +/- 295 Mb

--- Comment #24 from Ken Sharp imwellcushtymelike@gmail.com --- As usual this bug report is simply confusing.
The original issue from Comment #0 - a crash when installing with Mono - is fixed. I went back to Wine 1.6 to try and recreate the problem but it doesn't even occur that early on.
Tested again with Wine 3.6 and it dies in another way.

That's a different crash altogether.
Closing fixed.
