I can confirm the problem when starting Sinistar Unleashed (demo) with Wine-1.3.17: a warning message is shown: SmartHeap Library: MEM_BAD_POINTER. The dialogue box contains the buttons <OK> and <Cancel>. Pressing on <OK> repeats the same warning message over and over again. In fact, after I pressed on <OK> cca. 50 times, the main menu appears but the game is unresponsive.
Workaround: native msvcrt.dll (winetricks vcrun6): the warning messages have gone away and the game starts fine (provided you have Glidewrapper installed; the game needs that).
I attached a +msvcrt,+msgbox debug log (maybe it helps).
p.s: the demo linked in the url field didn't install for me (bad EXE format...) I've used another version of the demo to reproduce the problem: http://download.cnet.com/Sinistar/3000-7563_4-10030706.html

Does warn+heap show anything?
There is not a single line in the terminal when starting the demo with WINEDEBUG=warn+heap.

warn+heap didn't change anything: those warning messages are still popping up, one after the other.

--- Comment #12 from Viktor Mileikovskyi v_mil@ukr.net 2012-05-20 17:02:53 CDT --- In Ubuntu 12.04 this bug reappears. I use DraftSight on WineHQ x86 from 3 to 4 on Ubuntu 11.04 x64 on multiple PCs without any problems! The .Wine folder doesn't have "Program Files(x86)" folder See http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=11827
But in Ubuntu 12.04 x64 I try different versions of DraftSight with Wine 4 and Wine 5 (both x64 with "Program Files(x86)") with the same crush: SmartHeapLibrary - MEM_BAD_POINTER I press OK, OK ... OK and the window opens. But no response to any click or key. To close it I must restart Ubuntu. To reproduce this bug 1. Download DraftSight.exe from direct link: http://www.draftsight.com/download-windows 2. Run it on Wine x64 at Ubuntu 12.04 and complete install. It is nessesary to press Options on first dialogue. 3. Try to start it. This step usually performs automatically after installation.
Is it helpful to install WineHQ x86 only version and how to install it for workaround? With best regards. Viktor.

--- Comment #13 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2012-05-21 05:27:24 CDT --- You can force a 32-bit only wineprefix by using WINEARCH=win32 winecfg (must be a new prefix, obviously).

I can't reproduce the problem with DraftSight. The application starts without problems here. I must add that I'm using a 32-bit OS (Fedora 16).
According to my testing, the originally reported problem with Sinistar Unleashed Demo has been already fixed (1.3.34 -> 1.3.35): http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/commitdiff/d82dd2a4dbd50f09f7dec919c08...
Viktor, please open a new bug report for the issue in DraftSight. This one is FIXED.
