Summary: Graphics glitches in DirectX applications Product: Wine Version: 1.1.44 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3d AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: diafero@arcor.de
Created an attachment (id=28103) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=28103) Portal with graphics glitchs (and this is still fairly good, it gets really bad when I get close to the portal flare effect)
Applications using DirectX produce more or less heavy graphics glitches on my system: Uru (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=4045, http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=4264) runs mostly fine, but when I am in the same environment as other players, some vertices start to hop around the screen when viewing at them at certain angles. When I turn a bit, everything is fine again. Portal run through Steam shows a similar issue, especially when I am close to one of the portals it gets really bad and I can hardly recognise anything on screen. I will try to attach a screenshot. I don't have the Uru glitches on my main desktop system (NVidia GeForce 8500, binary drivers), so I assume it is somehow related to my laptop's graphics card: AMD/ATI Radeon HD 3200, binary drivers, Ubuntu 10.04 64bit. I compiled wine myself. It does not matter whether desktop effects are enabled or disabled.

--- Comment #1 from matejcik@gmail.com 2010-06-11 11:17:19 --- i am seeing this too with Radeon HD 4670 (fglrx) and Ubuntu 10.04, on 32bit installation, Wine from PPA.
my previous GPU from NVidia was without problems.
In Portal, glitches disappear when i set dxlevel to < 90. When dxlevel is 90 or higher, glitches appear especially with "difficult" surfaces like reflections and bump maps.
page[1] suggests that DirectX 9 enables the following features: * Refractions with the use of a bump-map * High-quality reflective water (used frequently) * Softer edge dynamic shadows * Normal-mapped lighting on models * Improved-quality specular effects * High dynamic range rendering so at least one of them is probably causing the mess.
just to be sure, i tested in windows and the glitches do not appear, thus ruling out hardware failure

--- Comment #2 from diafero@arcor.de 2010-06-12 10:22:36 --- Things got much better since I upgraded to 1.2-rc1 (I'm now at 1.2-rc3, with no further noticeable changes). There are still some glitches, but Portal is actually playable now (without modifying any command-line parameter, but with the in-game graphics setting turned quite low). Main problem now is the low framerate, not the glitches.
The glitches in Uru seem to be completely gone.

--- Comment #3 from matejcik@gmail.com 2010-06-19 08:10:07 --- i have experienced very similar glitches in Linux-native port of Unreal Tournament (the old one) with OpenGL renderer, so i must assume that it's a driver bug :(
(in UT, switching texture detail from High to Medium removes the glitches)

--- Comment #4 from diafero@arcor.de 2012-05-18 03:37:25 CDT --- I haven't seen any glitches in Uru since at least wine 1.4-rc1, so I'm closing this.
