Summary: Steam will not begin installation, segmentation fault, perhaps Product: Wine Version: 1.1.16 Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: julian.lam@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=19738) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=19738) Error Log, WINE output
Steam runs and logs in as normal, but I cannot install any games using the "Games" menu, as the program freezes immediately after pressing the "Install" button. As far as I know, there are no alternate methods of installation, and I must go through the Steam menu to install games.
I've attached a log detailing the applicable error messages.

--- Comment #6 from Julian Lam julian.lam@gmail.com 2009-03-04 13:38:21 --- I don't get the same error as Jeff. Just the top two, as detailed in my original error log.
I have an 8800GT, with 180.29 installed.

--- Comment #7 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2009-03-05 09:33:14 --- Works for me. Have you tried to completely remove wineprefix and reinstall steam with wine_gecko?
Also I get much more in the terminal then those two lines. When we ask for "terminal output" you have to post everything from the start, including the exact command you used to run the app with.

Did you remove ~/.wine directory and reinstall Steam & wine_gecko?
Thanks for the reply, Vitaliy.
I removed the package wine-gecko and reinstalled it via apt-get.
Set WINEPREFIX to a new directory, and reinstalled Steam.
No change, unfortunately. Same error log as above.

I removed the package wine-gecko and reinstalled it via apt-get.
Don't do that. Let Wine download it from the Internet.
No change, unfortunately. Same error log as above.
Provide step-by-step instructions. There is no "Install button" anywhere.

--- Comment #12 from Julian Lam julian.lam@gmail.com 2009-03-15 10:55:32 --- I've removed .wine as asked, and removed wine-gecko using apt-get.
I reinstalled steam on a pre-generated .wine directory, and I am still unable to install games.
Vitaliy, listen to me, there is an "install" button on the "Games" window in Steam. You press it to install games that have not been downloaded to your computer yet.
A new error message has cropped up since:

--- Comment #13 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2009-03-15 16:34:25 --- Ok, I see the button you are talking about. Still works for me. How did you install Wine? Were you using packaged version or compiled Wine yourself?
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17581
--- Comment #14 from Julian Lam julian.lam@gmail.com 2009-03-15 17:41:16 --- This was the prepackaged version I obtained using apt-get. I should have mentioned this before, but this is a 64-bit installation of Ubuntu.
In addition, the dialogue to install wine-gecko does not come up...

--- Comment #15 from Julian Lam julian.lam@gmail.com 2009-04-29 10:11:24 --- For some reason, it suddenly worked.
Then I upgraded to Jaunty, and the problem came back. Same error messages, fresh wine install with wine-gecko installed via the pop-up dialogue.

--- Comment #16 from Will Saxon saxonww@gmail.com 2009-05-25 21:02:24 --- I am having the same issue, both in a 32 bit chroot on Gentoo/amd64 and also in a Gentoo/x86 virtual machine running in VirtualBox 2.2.2.
I am using Wine 1.1.22 with the radeon driver, v 6.12.2. The VM uses the vboxvideo driver v 2.2.2.
I have posted session logs for both.

This is in a 32 bit chroot environment on a Gentoo/amd64 system.
The host uses kernel 2.6.29 with open source radeon driver 6.12.2 and wine 1.1.22.

--- Comment #20 from Krister Bäckman ixevix@gmail.com 2009-06-09 13:33:37 --- I can confirm this bug on wine-1.1.23. Reverting to 1.1.22 fixes the issue for me. I'm running an Athlon 64 with ATI x800 on 64-bit gentoo with 2.6.29-gentoo-r5 kernel and ati-drivers 8.593. Please ask for more details if they are needed.
