Still happens when I upgraded to wine-staging 1.8rc3-2 on Arch linux.

No crash for me when using XFWM4 from XFCE 4.12 (ubuntu 14.04), using wine
1.9.0

Could you please retest with the latest wine version, and tell which WM you're
using?

I use this option all the time and resized windows for more than a year and
cannot reproduce this bug.

Suggest closing this bug as resolved fixed.
