Bug ID: 42872 Summary: In 3D games, moving the mouse, it always moves a bit to down and right. Product: Wine Version: 2.6 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: critical Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: rencer@euromail.hu Distribution: ---
I using a 64bit Manjaro (an Arch based) linux, the version is 17.0.1 on a desktop computer. (Core2Quad Q6600 4GB ram, Nvidia GTX650 OC 2GB)
I have this strange mouse movement in many 3D games under Wine.
When moving the mouse slowly, it always moves down-righ a bit, no matter which way I really move the mouse. It is possible to move to the direction that I really move the mouse, but it looks like something "fighting" with my mouse movement and always moving it a bit to the down right direction. I tried with 3 different mouse (a Logitech cordless, a Trust GXT 25, and a noname cheap one) in every USB port and always getting this strange movement with every mouse. This problem is makes those games impossible to play, because it is impossible to aim correctly.
I already searched for solutions on the web, but I can't find anything that works. Changing anything with winecfg not working. Changing mouse settings in the OS not helping.
There is one suggestion that said, this is something to do with that the OS is recognising the mouse as a joystick/gamepad, so not wine problem, but that not the problem in my case! I tried that "solution" too and I find out my mouse is fine and not recognised as a joystick, so I think the problem is really with Wine. I think this is Wine problem, because those games under real Windows in this same computer, are working fine.
Most of the games that I own and like to play are working fine in Wine and/or have native Linux versions. But that few that is affected with this problem are in the top that I really like. So it would be really nice, if someone can help me to get rid of this problem.
One more thing; this strange movement is only happening in the 3D environment. In menus or inventory or something like that, when you see a mouse cursor it never happens, the mouse moving normally as expected. Games that not using 3D are not affected with this, and there are some 3D games that working fine. I think this is not releated to specific game engine, because it happens to me with games with different 3D engines.

--- Comment #1 from Olivier F. R. Dierick o.dierick@piezo-forte.be --- Not a critical bug. See [1] for severity level descriptions.
[1] https://bugs.winehq.org/page.cgi?id=fields.html#bug_severity
Do you have any other controller (joystick/gamepad) plugged-in? An non-calibrated controller may make the aim drift.
Check that no other device is detected as a controller (/dev/input/js*). Some fancy keyboards have keys or wheels that are wrongly recognized as joystick.
Check that controller input you don't use are disabled in the settings of the games.
It could be useful to list the 3D games you're trying to play so that we can search for mouse drifting issues with those games.

Thanks for trying to help, I changed the severity to major, because this thing affects MANY games and those games are unplayable, basically you can't use those programs, because of this bug. I hope it's ok in this way.
I forgot to mention in my first post, but on my system nothing is recognised as gamepad/joy, because I don't have any. And in dev/input/ there is no js*, nothing, so as far as I know that indicate that nothing is recognised as joy/gamepad. Because of this, that is why I think it has something in Wine.
All and every game that using the Unity-engine is affected with this bug. In Unity-engine games the mouse doing this strange down-right movement nonstop.
I have this issue in Fallout New Vegas too, this game using the Gamebryo-engine, but in FalloutNV it occurs randomly. The mouse sometimes working normally, but randomly it moves or more like jumps a bit into the down-right directon, and then the mouse works fine again. Under Windows I don't have this problem, but I no longer using that OS. Like I mentioned I have a very old PC, and even the newer Ububtu is performing very badly on my PC. I used Ubuntu from 2006 until 2010 but after that it works slowly, so I swithed, and I find out that the Arch-based Manjaro is the best for my comnputer, and I think I stick into that OS.
I mostly try out and play with many-many small early access games that using who-knows-what game-engines or using their own thing. But I think this is a bit irrelevant, because those games are in development, and hopefully they fixed.
I also run into this bug in some old (form the early 2000s) games, mostly strategy and RPG games. But I think we can skip those too, because maybe just one or two people play those games and maybe just once in every few years (like myself), and not that sever this bug on those games, because most of them are turn-based so the mouse drifting is just an annoying thing, and not made those games unplayable.
I think the Wine developers can focus on newer games, and I think the best start is look for any of the Unity-engine games or Gamebryo games. (At least the games that I tried to play recently using one of those engines) I think if the Wine devs can fix this bug in any of those games, hopefully it fix it for every other games too.
In the game settings anything releated to gampads or joysticks are ALWAYS "greyed out" or can not be accessed for me, because I don't have any, so there is nothing that I can disable. Or at least I never run into any game, that producing this bug, that I can change any setting releated to gamad/joystick.

--- Comment #3 from faalagorn@gmail.com --- I had encountered this bug in all three Unity 3D games I tested in Wine so far - My Summer Car, Escape from Tarkov and Jalopy. I've been always using the latest Wine version available for my OS (pure Arch Linux), currently using wine-staging 2.7, and the bug still persist.
Basically, *any* mouse interaction causes the mouse to move what it seems to be exactly one pixel down and right. When moving the mouse, it makes it harder to move it up and/or left and easier to move it down and/or right, or like Rencer explained before, "it looks like something "fighting" with [the] mouse movement".
HOWEVER, the movement of 1 pixel down AND right also occurs when the mouse wheel is being scrolled (up or down), or when I click any mouse button (left, right, middle/scroll click and even thumb 1 and 2 buttons on my mouse).
Since there is a way to play both My Summer Car ( http://steamcommunity.com/app/516750/discussions/2/154644705028276893/ ) and Jalopy ( http://steamcommunity.com/app/446020/discussions/0/135510669593970925/ ) natively by replacing the binaries, I can confirm the issue appears only when using Wine. It seems that like Rencer said, it affects all the Unity 3D games, but *only* the one with 3D graphics and only the actual 3D mode, not the menus (I can confirm that).
I also assumed joystick being an issue. I tried fiddling with regedit to remove any default joystick binding in My Summer Car, but I didn't found a way to do so. However, in Jalopy the joystick support is disabled by default, and the issue still persist.
I also have no other USB devices attached other than my mouse and keyboard. I didn't test it with PS/2 mouse and keyboard, so I can't say anything about PS/2 devices (I will test it if I found any, but I don't have any near me at the moment to confirm).
I will attach the bug to My Summer Car and Escape From Tarkov AppDB entries, as the issues are mentioned both by me and other testers. Jalopy doesn't have entry yet, so I'll attach it when/if I made one :)
I also suggest Rencer and other finding the bugs to properly tag at least the Unity 3D games, as we know these are affected :). Someone dedicated enough could test it with other Unity 3D games (even if they have a native Linux port) just to make sure, but like I said, I suspect that it's the bug that affects all the Unity 3D games.

--- Comment #4 from faalagorn@gmail.com --- Just realized this bug was already reported as Bug 42717 though initially assigned only for My Summer Car. These two reports may use some merging.

--- Comment #5 from Matthew Smith znggurj+wine@gmail.com --- Yes I think that this is a duplicate of Bug 42717
I've only encountered this bug in Unity games, other games running on the Source engine seem to run fine.
Nothing gets picked up as a joystick on my system afaik
