Summary: Return to Mysterious Island 2 crashes after starting Product: Wine Version: 1.3.26 Platform: x86 URL: http://www.fileplanet.com/201531/200000/fileinfo/Retur n-to-Mysterious-Island-2---Demo OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: gyebro69@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=36098) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=36098) terminal output
The game crashes shortly after starting, without displaying anything.
After changing orm to backbuffer, the game doesn't crash but it hangs and the terminal output ends with: fixme:d3d:IWineD3DBaseSwapChainImpl_GetRasterStatus iface 0x15d740, raster_status 0x32e4e4 stub!
I also noticed that at least the first intro video (company logo) was playing correctly in Wine-1.2.3 but the game hung afterwards (only with orm=backbuffer; with orm=fbo the game always produced the same crash as it does in the current git version). Since Wine-1.3.0 the game hangs (without showing anything) when orm=backbuffer.
The problem can be reproduced in the demo, too.
Fedora 15 x86 Nvidia gfx card / driver 280.13

--- Comment #2 from marc.bessieres@gmail.com 2011-08-30 12:49:05 CDT --- I can confirm this crash using the demo version as given in the URL with 1.3.27 Changing with regedit the OffscreenRenderingMode to backbuffer didn't bring any improvement.
The official game doesn't even start as it complains about admin rights, I still have to figure out what to do with that.
BTW I see in the AppDB the demo version linked with the first episode of return to the mysterious island, while in fact it is the second episode which is not in the AppDB yet as far as my research went.

I've recently submitted a test result on Appdb for RtMI 2, unfortunately one of the admins deleted the submitted version and the whole entry for RtMI 2 was mistakenly merged into the first part of the game.

Do you think a new submission shall be made to the AppDB? Or is there a way to have the admin recreate yours?

My submission still exists in http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=24263. It should be either deleted or a new entry should be created for that version.

For this application itself, how did you manage to go through the admin rights needed on the first startup with the retail version (i.e. not the demo)?

Maybe the DVD version you own utilizes some kind of DRM. You can check the installed game by using ProtectionId: http://pid.gamecopyworld.com/ProtectionID_v6.4.0.rar
The game that I tested is the digital download version, it comes without DRM.

Using ProtectionID, I see for both the DVD and the installed game that SolidShield is used, and if I understand well it is version 5.5.5.2 which is the meta bug http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10264 I will add this to the AppDB for the French DVD

With the patch the game hangs after starting. The RTMI2.exe process is consuming 100% CPU, but nothing happens.

Still present as of wine-1.5.20-57-gdabde6a.
The value of 'bUseHardware' variable in config.ini decides whether the game uses d3d hardware acceleration or not. When it is disabled (bUseHardware=0) then the game crashes as in comment #0. With hw. acceleration enabled the game hangs with the intro logo as per comment #11.

--- Comment #19 from Béla Gyebrószki gyebro69@gmail.com --- I'm changing the subject of the bug report to collect possible duplicates here.
This bug affects the adventure games developed by Kheops Studio and released between 2006 and 2009. I have all these games either from Gamersgate or GOG and they share the same problem: the games are starting with one or two animations (developer logo) then they halt while music is playing. The menu doesn't appear because the screen is frozen with the last logo screen.
The affected games: SafeCracker The Ultimate Puzzle Adventure Destination Treasure Island Dracula 3-The Path of the Dragon Nostradamus: The Last Prophecy Demo version: http://www.gamershell.com/download_21867.shtml
The Secrets of Da Vinci: The Forbidden Manuscript Demo version: http://www.gamershell.com/download_18593.shtml
Return to Mysterious Island II Demo version: http://www.gamershell.com/download_47214.shtml
You can try any of the demos to reproduce the problem.
The problem doesn't exist (the games are loading to the main menu correctly) when using the CSMT patchset maintained by Stefan Dösinger.

Still present in wine-1.7.43-123-g90ed96a
The patch which fixes the problem: https://github.com/stefand/wine/commit/ fb0e5a8f2756f1513447e49d8d18c92dabc44e11
No, this patch can't be applied to recent wine. It doesn't fix the problem. +d3d shows that the problem is deeper, not in GetRasterStatus. --- Comment #25 from Sergey Isakov isakov-sl@bk.ru --- Strange. I have about the same messages and same black screen in game Sims2 Seasons, bug 8051. May be this is the key for the problem?
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28177
--- Comment #26 from Sergey Isakov isakov-sl@bk.ru --- I got a good result with RTMI2. wine-staging-1.9.1 Set CSMT is Stage tab. So wined3d -> wined3d-csmt redirected. But set CSMT=disabled in registry! This way the game plays 100% fine. Just wonder how to apply the patch to wine-hq.

--- Comment #27 from Sergey Isakov isakov-sl@bk.ru --- wine-1.9.3-371-g6377b89 Still not working, black screen with version number in left corner. Music playing. With wine-staging in CSMT mode it works just fine.

Can anyone double check just in case? This bug is old and affects many applications, I have no bandwidth to download the demo and test.

I tried the demo. I have no full version of any of those games. I get 2 errors while installing the demo. I don't know how serious those are. While starting the demo I get crash both wine-git and wine-staging 1.9.5. I am not even trying to quess the reason the backtrace and fixme lines aren't so clear on this.
I can't confirm this.
