Summary: Buttons not Painting when I select Windows 7 mode Product: Wine Version: 1.3.17 Platform: x86 URL: http://rh-software.com/ OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: user32 AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: ray@pobox.co.uk
Created an attachment (id=34039) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=34039) Screen Shot showing XP and 7 panels.
When I run SIV (http://rh-software.com/) on wine in XP mode all works as expected, but some buttons don't get displayed when I use Windows 7 mode. I can tell they are present as when I press [Copy] they are shown in the chipboard. In addition to the initial panel the same issue is also present on Menu->System->Fearures and several other panels. Needles to say but on all real Windows systems all is as expected.

Also some static controls don't get painted in W7 mode. All the ones on the initial screen are fine, but it fails on Menu->Hardware->NUNA Nodes.

After more checking the issue is also present in Vista and 2008 mode. I feel there is something very wrong going on here.
I have an even better work around, don't bother with Wine at all.

--- Comment #6 from Alexandre Julliard julliard@winehq.org 2011-04-12 04:57:58 CDT --- The severity is here to help developers assess relative importance of the bug. It's not about how this bug impacts you personally. Of course your problem is more important to you than anything else, but compared to other bugs 'minor' is a correct assessment of the severity. Please stop messing with it.

Yes, I expect you are correct. Maybe now the Wine powers that be will realise this is not a minor issue!

--- Comment #11 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2011-04-13 14:57:35 CDT --- Bug 24623 says the buttons do work in Win 7 mode once dotnet3 is installed. If installing dotnet3 solves the problem then:
A. This is a duplicate of that bug; and B. This is definitely minor.
Updating title: listing every major release of Windows doesn't achieve much.

V5.02 is OK, it should say V6.00 and so I have fixed it.
For SIV this is minor as I can switch to < V6.00 but there is somthing very strange happening within Wine. My view is that unless the reason for this is understood then it's going to run and run. As more programs demand Windows 7 then it's probably going to before a major problem. Installing .net 3 may hide the issue but unless we understand why it's not fixed.

I have just reread 24623 which says:
"To get the installer started, first install dotnet30 with winetricks and then set Windows version to Windows 7."
My reading is that .net30 is a prerequisite not a fix.

--- Comment #14 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2011-04-13 15:53:58 CDT --- If dotnet30 is required then it is required, whether running Wine or Windows.
Tried with dotnet30 - no change.

Thank you for checking that .net30 does not fix the issue.
The issue also affects WC_IPADDRESS controls. To access these do Menu->TCP/IP->Ping Network.

--- Comment #16 from Nikolay Sivov bunglehead@gmail.com 2011-04-14 09:47:19 CDT --- Ray, if you are developer of this test program (or whatever it is):
- do you have different paths for different Windows versions? - you're using Win7 SDK to build and it runs fine (with no control glitches) on XP? - is it a normal user32 button and how .NET mentioned here is related to this problem? - so who does render button?

XP? is it a normal user32 button and how .NET mentioned here is related to this problem?
1) The same SIV32X.exe is used on all of XP and later 2) SIV.exe has the same issues. It's ASCII rather than Unicode and runs on NT4/95 and later. 3) All "new" funcions get loaded with GetProcAddress(). 4) On real Windows there is never this issue with SIV.exe or SIV32X.exe 5) There is only an issue on Wine if NT V6.00 or later is specified 6) SIV does not use .NET. I expect it's not related at all. 7) The Push Buttons are BS_OWNERDRAW 8) I never get the WM_DRAWITEM/ODT_BUTTON for the missing ones 9) On Menu->Hardware->Features standard check boxes are missing 10) On Menu->TCP/IP->Ping Network the WC_IPADDRESS controls loose text 11) On Menu->System->Device Tree the WC_STATIC bitmap is missing

--- Comment #18 from butraxz@gmail.com 2013-11-24 12:13:40 CST --- This ticket has not been updated for over 900 days. Development recommends to check the status on your bug every release or two and let to be known if the bug is still present. If not, mark it fixed. If you are no longer able to put effort to this ticket, you can abandon it.
Is this still an issue with 1.7.7 or higher ?
