Bug #: 28804 Summary: Angry Birds: switching from fullscreen to windowed mode problem Product: Wine Version: 1.3.30 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: graham@nerve.org.za Classification: Unclassified
A free demo of the game is available here: http://download.angrybirds.com/
After installation, the game starts in fullscreen mode by default. If the game is switched to windowed mode, by clicking on the gear and then the rectangle, the game switches out of fullscreen mode and the music continues to play but the window is not visible.
There is a configuration file 'Program Files/Rovio/Angry Birds/config.lua' which contains the line 'fullscreen = true'. If this line is changed to 'fullscreen = false', the game always starts in windowed mode, but can be switched to fullscreen and back to windowed mode without any problems.

I get the same output on the terminal whether starting with 'fullscreen = true' or fullscreen = false' in config.lua.

--- Comment #3 from Graham Inggs graham@nerve.org.za 2011-10-30 01:19:50 CDT --- Still occurs in Wine 1.3.31.

--- Comment #4 from Graham Inggs graham@nerve.org.za 2011-12-10 14:45:36 CST --- Still occurs with Angry Birds Seasons 2.1.0 in Wine 1.3.34.
I have tried logging into Ubuntu with the 'Ubuntu Classic (No Effects)' option but that made no difference.

--- Comment #6 from Graham Inggs graham@nerve.org.za 2012-04-30 03:04:06 CDT --- Created attachment 39966 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=39966 Screenshot after switching from fullscreen to windowed mode
Screenshot taken from Angry Birds Seasons 2.3.0 after switching from fullscreen to windowed mode. The application normally reports the window size in the window title. Instead of 1024x600, it is reporting 24x5. Only the 24x5 pixels in the upper left corner get updated, the rest of the screen remains static.

--- Comment #7 from Graham Inggs graham@nerve.org.za 2012-04-30 03:54:18 CDT --- Still occurs with Angry Birds Seasons 2.3.0 in Wine 1.5.3 on Ubuntu 12.04 x86_64.
If the file 'Program Files/Rovio/Angry Birds Seasons/config.lua' contains the line 'fullscreen = true' and the game is started in fullscreen mode and then switching to windowed mode, the problem occurs. If the aforementioned file contains the line 'fullscreen = false', the problem does not occur.
The problem appears to have been fixed, or at least worked around, in the latest release in the Angry Birds series, Angry Birds 2.1.0.
I believe it is a Wine problem as the behaviour is not the same as it is in Windows.

The version 2.1.0 solved my problem mentioned above.

--- Comment #10 from Graham Inggs graham@nerve.org.za 2012-05-01 07:00:25 CDT --- @Vinycius Maia: Just to clarify, the current setting of whether the game is in fullscreen or windowed mode is stored (encrypted) in the file 'users/<username>/Angry Birds Seasons/settings.lua'. The setting stored in 'Program Files/Rovio/Angry Birds Seasons/config.lua' seems to control the default setting for a new user, as well as the way in which switching from fullscreen to windowed mode occurs.
So, to try and duplicate the problem, first edit 'Program Files/Rovio/Angry Birds Seasons/config.lua' and make sure that 'fullscreen = true'. Now start the game. If the game starts in windowed mode, set it to fullscreen and then exit the game. The game should now be in the same state in which older versions of the game shipped, i.e. the default fullscreen setting = true and the user fullscreen setting = true.
Start the game, then switch to windowed mode by clicking on the gear and then the rectangle and see if the problem occurs.
O/T: I have seen a problem with the textures similar to what you describe. It turned out to be the game executable and the game data were different versions, possibly caused by an incomplete upgrade. I uninstalled the game through 'Uninstall Wine Software' and then installed from a full download from http://download.angrybirds.com/ . The files in 'users/<username>/Angry Birds Seasons/', settings.lua and highscores.lua, remain untouched, so you don't lose your game progress.

You're right, just try again with version 2.0.2 without running the updater and it worked normally
Great advice.

--- Comment #12 from Ken Sharp imwellcushtymelike@gmail.com --- Is this still an issue in Wine 1.7.45 or later?

--- Comment #13 from Graham Inggs graham@nerve.org.za --- Hi, I've just tested on wine 1.6.2 (which is what I currently have installed in Ubuntu 15.04).
Angry Birds 1.6.2: problem still occurs (download no longer available)
Angry Birds Seasons 2.3.0: problem still occurs http://download.angrybirds.com/games/AngryBirdsSeasons/AngryBirdsSeasonsInst...
As reported previously, problem disappeared in Angry Birds 2.1.0, released 2012-04-25.
Angry Birds 3.3.3: problem does not occur http://download.angrybirds.com/games/AngryBirds/AngryBirdsInstaller_3.3.3.ex...
Angry Birds Seasons 4.1.0: problem does not occur http://download.angrybirds.com/games/AngryBirdsSeasons/AngryBirdsSeasonsInst...
Strangely, the problem seems to have reappeared in the latest version.
Angry Birds 4.0.0: problem occurs again http://download.angrybirds.com/games/AngryBirds/AngryBirdsInstaller_4.0.0.ex...
I'll try to download a development version of wine and confirm.

--- Comment #14 from Graham Inggs graham@nerve.org.za --- I've tested on a different machine with Ubuntu 14.04 and wine 1.6.2 and was able to reproduce the problem with Angry Birds 4.0.0 and Angry Birds Seasons 2.3.0.
I then followed the instructions on the page below, upgraded to wine 1.7.44, and the results were exactly the same. https://www.winehq.org/download/ubuntu
I'll test with wine 1.7.45 when it becomes available in the ubuntu-wine PPA.

The bug number is actually bug 34989. The bug you mentioned got closed as duplicate of that.
I wasnt able to test this against pure wine since I have broken audio configuration at compile time. I have development files installed but for some reason it doesnt compile audio support in.
