Bug ID: 56548 Summary: reMarkable app throws exception in 9.6 but worked in 9.5 Product: Wine Version: 9.6 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: max@mail.at Distribution: ---
Created attachment 76305 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=76305 Backtrace
The reMarkable Desktop companion app worked on earlier devel, but since devel 9.6 it crashes on startup.
The same problem occurs on staging.
The app does not work at all on stable, but that's a different problem that was since solved in devel (I think it started working in 9.5).

--- Comment #3 from Artur m.t@cool.ms --- For me the current reMarkable Desktop (3.10.0.845) doesn't even work on devel 9.5 and Ubuntu 20.04 (see my Backtrace attached). What I did: 1. First installed an older version of the app (3.6.0.761) but it has been immediately updated to 3.10.0.845. I could then login into the app and use it to create a new notebook. 2. But when starting the app next time it crashed. And still crashes on every start :-(
@Maximilian: which version exactly could you run on devel 9.5 on your machine ?

Unfortunately you need a reMarkable Connect account to activate the app. You can download it from here: https://downloads.remarkable.com/desktop/production/win/reMarkable-3.6.0.761... https://downloads.remarkable.com/desktop/production/win/reMarkable-3.10.0.84... but won't be able to activate it without an account...

--- Comment #6 from Artur m.t@cool.ms --- I figured out the reason why the app crashed in Wine 9.5 devel on my Ubuntu 20.04: the reason was/were emojis I used in some of the folder names in the app !!! After removing all emojis from the folder names, the app is up and running like a charm :-)

--- Comment #7 from Maximilian Hantsch max@mail.at --- Baseline check. I run this on Pop_OS! 22.04 (based on Ubuntu 22.04). I downgraded wine to devel 9.5.
(base) max@max-framework:~$ apt list --installed | grep wine
WARNING: apt does not have a stable CLI interface. Use with caution in scripts.
wine-devel-amd64/jammy,now 9.5~jammy-1 amd64 [installed,upgradable to: 9.6~jammy-1] wine-devel-i386/jammy,now 9.5~jammy-1 i386 [installed,upgradable to: 9.6~jammy-1] wine-devel/jammy,now 9.5~jammy-1 amd64 [installed,upgradable to: 9.6~jammy-1] winehq-devel/jammy,now 9.5~jammy-1 amd64 [installed,upgradable to: 9.6~jammy-1]
I then created a fresh empty wineprefix.
(base) max@max-framework:~$ echo $WINEPREFIX /home/max/.local/share/wineprefixes/wine64 (base) max@max-framework:~$ echo $WINEARCH win64
and installed the latest reMarkable Desktop software:
(base) max@max-framework:~$ wine Downloads/reMarkable-3.10.0.845-win64.exe
This works; the app runs fine.
Unfortunately I don't have time for a bisect in the next 2-3 weeks -- and I have never done it before, although I think I would be technically capable.
For now I held the wine devel packages, at least I have a working setup now.
(base) max@max-framework:~$ apt-mark showhold wine-devel wine-devel-amd64 wine-devel-i386:i386 winehq-devel
