Bug #: 30354 Summary: HomeWorld 1.05 crashes after startup Product: Wine Version: 1.4 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: akos@maroy.hu Classification: Unclassified
Created attachment 39678 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=39678 windows backtrace screenshot
After installing HomeWorld 1.05, it crashes after showing the initial video animations (Sierra & relic animations).
Please see a screenshot of the Windows backtrace, and the wine stdout output.
(one a side note: one can only get as far if Homeworld is run a window. if it is allowed to run fullscreen, it ruins the whole X session, the only way out is to killall -u username from a console)

--- Comment #1 from Ákos Maróy akos@maroy.hu 2012-04-04 02:52:40 CDT --- and the wine backtrace, it's small, so I'll just paste it here:
$ padsp wine ./homeworld /safeGL /sw fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x32eec0,0x00000000), stub! fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x32f600,0x00000000), stub! err:ole:CoInitializeEx Attempt to change threading model of this apartment from multi-threaded to apartment threaded fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x32f4c4,0x00000000), stub! fixme:x11drv:X11DRV_desktop_SetCurrentMode Cannot change screen BPP from 32 to 16 wine: Unhandled exception 0x80000003 at address 0x4fc322 (thread 0009), starting debugger...
the same thing happens if it is started just as 'wine ./homeworld'

The output before the backtrace you posted is 5 lines. Surely the backtrace isn't that long..are you setting WINEDEBUG or something?

--- Comment #7 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2012-04-05 08:57:27 CDT --- I tried but couldn't reproduce the problem on my system. Tested with Wine-1.4, 1.5.1, wine-1.5.1-124-g6d6e660. Also, there is bug #24766 which describes a very similar problem. Is this about the same issue?

--- Comment #11 from Ákos Maróy akos@maroy.hu 2012-04-06 12:06:55 CDT --- it seems I could reproduce the problem without play on linux as well.
in short, Homeworld 1.00 works just fine. but after patching to 1.05, it starts to break.
