Summary: Microsoft Reader will not open properly Product: Wine Version: 1.1.22 Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: cscott0108@gmail.com CC: cscott0108@gmail.com
When I try to launch Microsoft reader it opens and immediately produces an error " The Program msreader.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." then it says there is a problem with wine if it works fine in windows in vista and windows xp in virtual machine works fine just in wine. I have made sure that all .dll files are there and I installed the ie4linux software and running ie6 per the other help instructions and no go. I am unsure where the error logs are located and I can replicate the error on this machine so if any ideas. thanks chris.

I installed the ie4linux software
Don't bother reporting bugs here in that configuration.
Remove ~/.wine directory (or use different WINEPREFIX). Install Wine debug symbols (from the same place you got your Wine from). Install your program. Attach complete terminal output of the crash as a text file.

Here are my logs from wine and it is the same as the excerpt from the last person who posted for the error that i am seeing however i have installed the msvcirt.dll in the System 32 folder of /home/chris/.wine/drive_c/Windows/System 32/ and Microsoft Reader is installed under /home/chris/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Microsoft Reader/. the ie4linux failed too so i removed it.

--- Comment #8 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2009-05-29 19:18:40 --- vcrun6 works around the the crash. Copying msvcirt.dll to system32 isn't enough, you have to override it in winecfg too. Or just run "winetricks vcrun6" - it's easier.

--- Comment #14 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2009-06-14 13:45:54 --- So what version of MS Reader is it? The first two exceptions are Bug 18202, which means you have WMP installed. So either MS Reader is installing it, or you are not using a clean WINEPREFIX.
Unhandled exception: unimplemented function msvcrt.dll.sprintf_s called in 32-bit code (0x7bc48b60).
This is the next problem. Do you have Windows mode set to anything other than Windows XP? I can not reproduce this error with MS Reader 2.1.1. Also, make sure you are using a CLEAN WINEPREFIX.

Point is that the bug is still present in Wine. Using a native DLL does not fix the bug.
