It could be related to the limited number of pixel formats we are offering. That will be addressed in the future.

For some reason it calls GetPixelFormat on startup (likely some generic routine or so) and it is completely harmless. It is no bug. Further the app looks fine too.

--- Comment #14 from Roderick Colenbrander thunderbird2k@gmx.net 2008-10-21 14:51:34 --- For me version 3.5 works fine on Wine 1.1.6. Are you using an Nvidia videocard using modern display drivers? Child window opengl rendering doesn't work on drivers besides the ones from Nvidia at this point. Future DRI2 drivers will support this properly.

--- Comment #20 from Paul Romanyszyn pgr@arcelectronicsinc.com 2009-02-09 16:06:49 --- There has been a new version release which seems to have helped. With Version 4.0b pro 2008-05-27 it looks like a different lib is being used to do the 3d stuff and in most cases it now works. If you use the Configure menu item and then the texture tab and change the select texture to LOPAM photographic the texture mapping fails. Tested with wine-1.1.14-328-g8496db4

The vmaexpert.exe version with the 3d render shows the same bug as in the original bug report. When zoomed out all the way at start the black with dots and labels show for s split second then vanish. Zooming in more then 50% on the slider will cause the 3D drawing to look like it should but the labels just flash and then are erased. This is with Mint 14 and Mesa DRI Intel(r) Ivybridge mobile.

It may be just some bugs in the program triggered by the open gl driver used or the window manager differences. I get the same broken image as my 2007 screen shot without any text until I zoom in to about 50%. I can get text to show if I drag a different window of the top of the area. If I give focus back to VMA the text disappears.
At a zoomed about 50% or higher a section of the surface is drawn but is smaller then the size of the window. By panning (dragging the surface) it looks like the software transforms the canvas view region to a longitude and latitude range that should cover the whole canvas when applied to spherical surface but it is big enough. see my next screen shot of the zoomed problem.
Since VMA has been ported from Delphi to Lazarus version 6 now runs natively.

--- Comment #31 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com 2013-02-15 21:35:32 CST --- It may be related to the driver, I don't know =/
For the sake of completeness I'm using the latest experimental packages from debian for intel drivers (2.20.14-1) and mesa (8.0.5). I don't have any other hardware to test.

You have to be patient. The app churns the CPU for some time (10-20 seconds) until the user interface is shown/ready.
Anyway, the moon display is fine - I don't get any artifacts (with zoom in). You can also play/verify with OpenGL settings/tweaks on 'Setup' property page.
In my opinion the original issue is no longer present -> 'fixed'. I leave it up to you to confirm.
