Summary: DPP: "Image edit window" blocks the app, crippling functionality Product: Wine Version: 0.9.61. Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: dturina@inet.hr
Canon DPP: Opening "Image edit window" causing app to block after upgrade to wine v.0.9.61. When I open gnome system monitor I can see the processes, and terminating "DPPEditor" allows the DPP viewer process to resume normally. In previous versions of wine DPPEditor (image edit window) didn't draw the auto-resize view properly, but in the new version it doesn't seem to work at all. DPP users should definitely not use Wine 0.9.61 until this is resolved because it seriously cripples app functionality. DPP version in question is 3.2.0.4, running under Ubuntu 8.04 AMD64.

The last working version was 0.9.95, package wine_0.9.59-0ubuntu4_amd64.deb
What do you mean is it downloadable? If you mean DPP, I didn't reinstall it after upgrading wine.

Oh, you are probably asking whether one can download and test DPP. I'm afraid not, the application comes with the Canon Digital Camera Solutions CD that is bundled with Canon dSLR cameras (and can be updated to recent versions from the Canon website, but you need to install from CD first). It's not good news for debugging purposes, I know, but this is one of the major tools for serious digital photographers, it's not some obscure thing nobody's ever heard of. It's a major pain that it stopped working properly.

This is terribly complicated for a photographer with a headache at 10PM. :) But I did try to downgrade to v.0.9.59 and now DPP doesn't even work here either. I can't figure this out on my own. :( Wine and DPP don't seem to cooperate very nicely at all.

--- Comment #6 from John Barnes j.r.barnes@herts.ac.uk 2008-05-15 03:53:50 --- I can confirm this bug - the image edit window has caused Digital Photo Professional to crash, although processes are still running.
I upgrade Wine on each new release and have found that the last version which works with DPP is wine-0.9.56. All subsequent releases, including wine-1.0-rc1 suffer from this problem.
Before the DPP window disappears, the following message is reported:
fixme:win:GetWindowPlacement not supported on other process window 0x2005c
I am running DPP version 3.2.0.4 on Fedora 8.

I now downgraded wine to wine-0.9.56 and confirm return of functionality in DPP, the edit window no longer crashes the application.

I have carried out regression testing between 0.9.56 and 1.0-rc1 (in fact between 0.9.56 and 0.9.57) when the problem began.
The final output was from the final git command was:
git bisect good
Bisecting: 0 revisions left to test after this [accfce21d3e042638a5eac8a8379eda2964fcd0a] user32: Fix a couple of message test failures.
This appears to be much less info than the Wine wiki on regression testing suggests - please let me know if there is anything further I can or need to do.

DPP now behaves properly when the edit button is pressed.

Yes, problem fixed by reversing patch (using updated git repository from 28/05/2008 - build version with reversed patch is wine-1.0-rc1-104-g2470b0b).
