Running Wine in a virtual desktop, and turning off X mouse acceleration both seem to help but don't get rid of the problem completely.
When moving the pointer left and right at very low speeds, the mouse goes in the opposite direction it should. Up and down is always correct though.
It also bounces off the edges of the screen, but I think that is a known issue with the mouse in Wine, so a dupe.
