Summary: wine doesn't run under a X client for windows under wine [dogfood?] Product: Wine Version: 1.0-rc2 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: andriusmao@gmail.com
I was doing some tests and kde runs properly under a X client for windows (such as Xming and WinaXe) under wine. But wine starts debugger when trying to run any windows program (such as these provided by WinaXe or such as winecfg) in "remote" display.

when running in Xming the error is simpler and seems to be a X error, but other non-windows X applications work on Xming: Building font metrics. This may take some time... Xming does not work under wine 1.1.11, can't test with WinaXe as my trial license has expired.
You said winecfg shows the same problem, try that, notepad, etc.

--- Comment #7 from Andrius andriusmao@gmail.com 2008-12-29 10:46:56 --- can't try that because Xming is not working under wine 1.1.11 :(
in rc2 I remember that none of mswindows applications ( including notepad ) worked under Xming under wine, linux apps ( except wine itself ) worked ok under the mswindows X server under wine.

Please file a bug for this. Be sure to run a regression test: http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting

I've made a mistake, Xming is still working, however this bug is still an issue under wine 1.1.11

wineserver has nothing to do with an X server.

Is this still an issue in current (1.1.44 or newer) wine?
with current 1.2-rc1:
linux apps under Xming under wine -> OK wine under Xming under mswindows -> OK (and useful! :) )
wine under Xming under wine (dogfood): using wine desktop mode -> fail not using wine desktop and not using "Xming -multiwindow" -> fail wine ( not desktop mode ) and Xming ( multiwindow mode ) -> works but most apps have no window border ( I've tried winecfg, winefile, regedit, winemine - only winemine had window borders )

--- Comment #17 from butraxz@gmail.com 2012-05-16 14:23:18 CDT --- No update from OP for two years. Is this a wine issue at all ? XMing is an X-server, shouldnt this be an upstream bug or should this be marked as abandoned ?

--- Comment #18 from Andrius andriusmao@gmail.com 2012-05-16 20:36:16 CDT --- With wine-1.3.28 it works with default wine settings. It does not work when using wine's emulate virtual desktop setting, giving:
X Error of failed request: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) Major opcode of failed request: 10 (X_UnmapWindow) Resource id in failed request: 0x6200001 Serial number of failed request: 65 Current serial number in output stream: 66

--- Comment #20 from Andrius andriusmao@gmail.com --- Same as previous (now tested using vcxsrv [sourceforge.net/projects/vcxsrv] which seems more up-to-date than XMing). It works on default settings, doesn't work when using "emulate virtual desktop setting" and crashes when moving a window when unchecking either "allow wm to draw the window border" or "allow wm to control the window border" settings.
