OpenBOR, an application that has worked consistantly since Wine 0.9.40, crashes with this error:
wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x0043649d at address 0x7ef8451e (thread 0009), starting debugger... err:seh:raise_exception Unhandled exception code c0000005 flags 0 addr 0x7ef8451e
This is the only error I get from it.

me too. I downloaded different hobbyist (unofficial) builds and don't see the problem. There is an SVN with complete source (http://lavalit.com/index.php?action=svn) but going through process compiling this stuff just to find out there is no problem would be a waste of time.
Please specify exactly what app version of OpenBOR you use and from where did you get the _binary_ package (sha1sum the OpenBOR.exe)!
Also make sure you use a clean WINEPREFIX for running the app.
