Summary: Full Screen mode in World of Warcraft (WoW) broken in 1.1.16 with Gnome. Product: Wine Version: 1.1.6 Platform: Macintosh OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: dfgilbert@50ftRobot.com
Full screen mode in world of warcraft is broken in 1.1.16 with Gnome. When using gnome and launching the game, the gnome panels are displayed over the game window. It then makes the mouse freak out and making the game un playable, almost as if the mouse is trying to decide whether it's on the desktop or in the game window.

Ok, I reinstalled wine 1.1.6 before I went to work and launched the game and same error. I made sure to turn off Compiz and it had the same error.
I started the regression prep from the wiki but had to leave, i'll finish it tonight.

--- Comment #17 from Alexander Trauzzi atrauzzi@gmail.com 2008-10-15 09:41:55 --- I just wanted to report that I have two (out of two) systems where this is happening.
I've mitigated *temporarily* by enabling "emulate a virtual desktop" and setting it to the full resolution of my display. However this is in no way the expected or sensible behaviour.
It's worth noting that on one of them, even with the virtual desktop enabled and set to the full resolution, the emulated area begins just below the gnome panel. There may or may not be an additional concern at hand there, but I will take a closer look at the issue after work today (it may be compiz related).
Anyway, this is just my note to support the popular vote. I can also confirm that this happened between the two patches that this version of WINE has been available for. So it's definitely WINE.

--- Comment #19 from Guillaume Melquiond guillaume.melquiond@gmail.com 2008-10-15 11:55:14 --- Same as in comment #8, reverting 9aaa24091f9b93f8071b9685b6eaa8c6f16ff826 fixed a bunch of issues with WoW. The gnome panel wasn't overriding WoW for me, but I nonetheless was unable to use the mouse at the bottom of the screen in WoW (where my gnome panel happens to be). Moreover, whenever I was switching desktop, the WoW fullscreen window was suddenly changing resolution.

--- Comment #20 from Scott Ritchie scott@open-vote.org 2008-10-15 13:17:32 --- It's worth noting that the posters so far are using, I believe, Gnome 2.22.3 (ie what comes in Ubuntu 8.04).
Could someone upgrade to Intrepid, get/build the Intrepid Wine 1.1.6, and retest? Intrepid's window manager is the first one to be "blessed" by Alexandre.

--- Comment #21 from Herbie Hopkins herbie@hopkins.net 2008-10-16 03:04:32 --- I'm also getting similar problems on KDE 4.1. Here the the full screen game does cover the taskbar but I'm unable to move the mouse cursor over the area where the taskbar would reside (making that area of the game screen unusable). I have no such problems with wine 1.1.5.

--- Comment #24 from Alexander Trauzzi atrauzzi@gmail.com 2008-10-16 13:14:12 --- This seems all wrapped up, but I wanted to confirm that compiz does in fact offset the 3D surface.
After disabling compiz on the computer that I was having troubles with (even with emulate a virtual desktop enabled), the problem went away.
I realize it's a separate issue, but will that also be resolved with this fix, or is it worthwhile to make/link another issue to here just in case?
There's two problems that can generate this symptom (with gnome):
o Taskbar appearing over the 3D surface, mitigated by enabling emulating a virtual desktop. o 3D surface being offset by the taskbar.
As far as I can tell, this issue exists to resolve the first, but are the two in fact different problems?
