Wine 1.7.4 doesn't have this problem, so it's a recent enough regression.

My i_view32.ini file was terribly f*cked up (I've no idea how and why - maybe it's an application bug).
Under the [MRUD] section it has a MRUD2 setting which weighs over 500MB (!!!). IrfanView (or Wine) crashes trying to parse this enormous string.
I'm not sure I want to debug this problem, since it's not Wine's fault per se. I've removed this setting/string and everything is fine now.

No, most likely I've discovered a very rare bug in MRUD handling in IrfanView - for reasons unknown IrfanView decided to fill one of MRUD entries with 560MB of junk - I'm not an expert in C/strings/buffer overflow/assembler/security - so I've no idea how that could happen but it happened.
