Summary: Null pointer de-reference playing half-life 2: wine kernel bug? Product: Wine Version: 0.9.49. Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wine-kernel AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: phil@kantaka.co.uk
Created an attachment (id=9272) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=9272) backtrace from winedbg
I've got about half-way through HL2 (all with 0.9.49) and the game has suddenly started crashing on startup with a null pointer exception. It's worked fine up to now!
Is this crash in the wine code? I'm not familiar with winedbg. Backtrace etc attached, happy to do any other suggested tests.
Other Source games are still working fine; Portal works (with the fglrx radeon driver -- the r300 driver doesn't have fragment shaders & I think that's breaking it, it refuses to start).
Error trace attached
cheers, Phil

--- Comment #1 from Stefan Dösinger stefandoesinger@gmx.at 2007-11-21 12:23:41 --- "with the fglrx radeon driver"
usually that one causes issues. Is the crash repeatable, or was it a random crash?

--- Comment #2 from Phil Armstrong phil@kantaka.co.uk 2007-11-21 14:46:26 --- The crash occurs both with the fglrx driver & the open source r300 driver (the card is a Radeon 9550).
All the other Valve games seem OK & HL2 worked fine until last night with wine 0.9.49
Most odd.

I built the wine debs myself from the 0.9.49 sources, so I can build debug versions if that would help.

--- Comment #4 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2007-11-23 02:24:29 --- Can you try with a clean .wine directory and see if it still occurs? If so, can you run a regression test?

--- Comment #5 from Phil Armstrong phil@kantaka.co.uk 2007-11-23 03:12:16 --- I'll give it a go over the weekend if I have time.
I'll have to copy over the Steam directory of course.
cheers, Phil

--- Comment #6 from Phil Armstrong phil@kantaka.co.uk 2007-11-23 15:38:28 --- OK, I should have had more faith in you guys obviously: this turns out to be an HL2 data corruption issue of some sort.
I do have a GLSL / non GLSL rendering bug to report, but I'll file a new bug for that. Sorry for the bugzilla noise.
