Summary: English Grammar in Use: Wine doesn't recognize the original CD Product: Wine Version: 0.9.50. Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: blocker Priority: P2 Component: wine-advapi32 AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: linux@ikiru.ch
Created an attachment (id=9516) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=9516) Wine log
The original CD is not recognized when launching EGU.
I switched the "windows version" (on Wine config) from windows xp to windows 98 (otherwise I get the error message "unimplemented function ntoskrnl.exe.IoGetDeviceProperty"), but I cannot bypass this error :
"Wrong disk inserted. Please insert the original disk into your CD/DVD drive"
It is displayed by wine, on a message box.
Wine log is attached.

--- Comment #2 from Stefan Dösinger stefandoesinger@gmx.at 2007-12-06 06:10:10 --- Copy protection systems are not supported in win98 mode, you will need winxp / win2k for this. ntoskrnl.exe.IoGetDeviceProperty needs to be implemented apparently for that to work, and propably more things.
advapi is not the right category, and unfortunately we don't have a copy protection / ntoskrnl category yet, so changing to wine-misc. Also, severity is not "blocker", please read the severity descriptions.

--- Comment #3 from Stefan Dösinger stefandoesinger@gmx.at 2007-12-06 06:12:14 --- Looking at the error log, maybe you'll can get it working in win98 by allowing access to the cdrom device node (/dev/sr*) and the scsi general nodes(/dev/sg*).

Thanks for all these informations and corrections, Stefan.
How can I manage to grant access to /dev/sr* and /dev/sg*?

Just tried with the last release (rc4): no luck. Both win98 and winxp options fail, but win98 "only" complaints about the protection issue.

I'm going a bit further. Wine log is attached. Unfortunately, now it stops with a new error message "Please insert the original disc instead of a backup. See www.securerom.com/copy for more details".
Clicking "ok" close both the window and wine.
Tried to lunch the program from the local installation and from the CD itself; no luck, I got the same error message. (I didn't see the point to install the program again, and then lunch the brand new local install, but if you think it could help, let me know).
Have I to add I own an original disc?
