When I was on 1.2_rc5 everything worked originally, but once I upgraded to 1.2 the problem started occurring. I have tried native dlls, reinstalling, and a complete rebuild (not from scratch, just emerge -eav world) of gentoo. I have since backed off to rc5 and the issue is still there.

Are you always running two side by side?
In addition, I suggest you update from nvidia 173.xx which is a few years old now, there are much newer stable drivers available.

I traditionally used two clients side by side but have since stopped due to the fact that I have stopped actively playing due to crashing all the time. Testing and reporting is now only from the one client. I downgraded to the 173 driver to see if there was some problem with the latest nvidia driver, I also dropped propriety drivers all together but obviously that didn't work.
I am not sure if I am doing the backtrace thing correctly however.

Installation was really buggy, Client starts only a few times when I'm lucky, with the latest Version (Wine 1.1.38) the Client don't crash after i select the Char and / or inside of the Station but when i leave them.
This Game is absolutely not GOLD.

--- Comment #18 from r_reddmann@web.de 2010-10-18 02:39:31 CDT --- I had the same Error... Random Page Faults, mostly in thread 9.
Renamed the jukebox folder, no change. Disabled sound, no change. Tested with last Wine versions(1.2.x - current), no change.
I tested on the same Hardware with an WinXP installation, no problems, so HW is ok.
You can provoke the crash to happen faster when you (need two screens for that) start klicking in other windows(screens) then Eve window, so that it loses Focus. After a short time it will crash when you focus eve.
So i think its an Problem with Ressource managment (maybe alloc, realloc and freeing memory?) for differents states of GetForeGroundWindow() ??

--- Comment #19 from Alan Luth alanluth@gmail.com 2010-10-18 04:37:34 CDT --- Did anyone try a regression test against wine 1.0 to see if the same error happens there?
Looks a bit like a memory corruption so could be somewhere the memory isnt cleaned up properly before putting new data in.
Also make sure you have the JukeBox problem fixed, i recognise a few as being the jukebox service problem

--- Comment #20 from Robert R. r_reddmann@web.de 2010-10-20 09:15:39 CDT --- I solved that Problem for me.
I Used Fluxbox when i tried it.
Changes i have done to success: Upgraded to wine 1.3.4 Changed WindowManager to KDE Emulated a Virtual Desktop
I will try to run that under fluxbox these days and post the results of my investigation.
Only error i could find now was that the ingame browser provokes sometimes a crash (when copying the URL)

I have error when entering game, on login screen, character creation screen or loading game screen. When I enter game I have no problems. It is random - I need to try 3-4 times to login and then I can usually play normally.

For me, it happens with one client, with or without the virtual desktop. The PF usually happens during warp, or just after. It also seems like it is more likely when i first log in and play, and after a while it becomes less likely, though that may just be more randomness.

--- Comment #31 from James Lewis james@fsck.co.uk 2011-08-25 04:22:40 CDT --- I'm not sure if this is an identical bug, but I get a few random pagefaults during gameplay... the useful piece of information is that once it got "stuck", such that every time I logged on, the ship warped back to where it had been... and the client immediately crashed on landing... Changing to the map view during this time, and moving the ship away from the site I was at allowed me to escape the loop of failure...
It seems like this may be triggered by some texture or object that it failed to render... since displaying the map, instead of the normal graphics avoided the crash.
James.
