--- Comment #1 from Kai Krakow kai@kaishome.de 2010-05-02 07:36:49 --- Can confirm this. Trying to start the game again and again may result in the game actually starting without problems, but that takes about 20-100 tries.
I remember this was not an issue with an older kernel. Also this only seems to happen when using the nocd patch. Without nocd patch the game just hangs. Of course if you get it running without the nocd patch, the game still won't be usable.
Gentoo Linux 32 Bit Kernel 2.6.32
All I can add is that it does not seem to have to do with the wine version or the commits. I already had this problem about 6 months ago but then gave up on the issue.

--- Comment #9 from Rafael Monica monraaf@gmail.com 2010-05-27 17:11:08 --- It's nice for qaridarium that catalyst 10-5 fixed his problems with Far Cry. But it still segfaults here with 10.5. And I don't see any indication that this is a fglrx bug.

your hd5000 card use an diverend openGL version in the driver comparet to my hd4000 card.. openGL3,3 vs openGL4!
the 10-6 driver will have more openGL bugfixes for the OpenGL4 version!

--- Comment #11 from Witold Baryluk baryluk@smp.if.uj.edu.pl 2010-09-23 14:54:43 CDT --- I have the same problem on 32bit Linux 2.6.34 with nVidia Corporation GeForce 8600 GT on nvidia 195.36.24 drivers. Wine 1.1.42.
So it is not a driver bug, but something in Wine. Now compiling 1.3.3 from source to test it again.

--- Comment #12 from Witold Baryluk baryluk@smp.if.uj.edu.pl 2010-09-23 15:32:03 CDT --- Tested it in Wine 1.3.3, and it behaves the same way.
I also compiled Wine 1.1.37, and it do not have this error. Far Cry shows splash screen, and after a moment a Dialog Window appears "Critical exception": EXCEPTION_ILLEGAL_INSTRUCTION, and call stack (no symbols on IP addresses).
In 1.1.37, also editors starts (it not even starts with 1.1.42 or 1.3.3), but after a while shows similar critical exception window:
EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION Attempt to read from address 0x00000302 The memory could not be "read"

No such problem here: * wine-1.3.3-380-gc6e1a0c * nVidia GT240 v 256.53 * 8x CPU * Debian Squeeze 32bit

--- Comment #14 from Witold Baryluk baryluk@smp.if.uj.edu.pl 2010-10-11 20:18:27 CDT --- It looks that upgrading to nvidia 256.x probably solved problem, as now i can play without problem. Everything works perfectly and smooth. I blame drivers, but I have also changed few other things (kernel, wine recompiled again), so not 100% sure.
Thanks.
